About Vijayawada

Vijaywada is popularly known as Bezawada and is located on the banks of the river Krishna in the South, the Budameru river on the north, the Bay of Bengal in the east and Indrakeeladri Mountains in the west. Vijaywada in literal terms means the place of victory and is the third largest city in Andhra Pradesh. Vijaywada is a significanttrade and commerce centre as well as an administrative centre for Krishna District. Vijaywada was a main part of Vijaynagar Empire during the reign of Krishna Devrayar. According to folklore Lord Shiva gave blessing to Arjuna who was a great warrior of epic Mahabharata locating at the top of the hill known as Indrakeeladri andArjuna created Vijayawada. It is also assumed that Goddess Durga relaxed here after killing a demon and hence the name Land of Victory or Vijaywada.
CONNECTIVITY TO VIJAYAWADA: The railway station is connected to major cities in the country. Vijayawada airport is located at Gannavaram which is 20 km away from the city. State Road Transport Corporation connects Vijayawada to major cities in the State.
Kondapalli Fort is located on a hillock near Vijayawada and is having a three stori A ed rock tower. It is assumed to be built by Prolaya Vema Reddy. A major attraction here is the Dargah of Gareeb Saheeb who was a Persian saint. The place is famous for its toys as well. This is a picnic spot whichattracts large number of tourists.
Lenin Statue is situated in Vijayawada and symbolises struggle of working class in countries like India. It is a marvellous statue and many people visit this place. There is always a garlanding of statue on World Labour Day. A statue of Karl Marx is also located in Vijayawada.
Mogalarajapuram Caves located in close proximity to Vijayawada is famous for three cave temples which are supposed to be as old as 5th century. One of the caves has a marvellous carving of Ardhanareshwar which is peculiar in South India. These caves have Lord Shiva and Lord Vinayak in Natraj form.
Undavalli caves located in the Undavalli village of Guntur district near Vijayawada are four storied caves belonging to the 7th century. These caves are placed at thetop the highest mount facing the Krishna river. A major attraction here is the statue of Lord Vishnu in reclining posture and built from a single granite. These caves are well known for their architectural brilliance and tourists throng them every year.
Victoria Museum is the museum of Archaeological Department and houses idols, einscriptions, paintings, sculptures etc. One of the chief attractions is the statue of Lord Buddha in granite and white limestone standing Buddha statue.
Bhavani Island is an estuary island in the Krishna river and is a spectacular picnic spot. The island is good for water sports and adventure activities. Fishing can also be carried out here. The ride to the boat is highly pleasing.
Gandhi Hill also known as Gandhi stupa has a planetarium and light and sound show depicting life and works of Mahatma Gandhi. It has a well maintained libraryand view from the hill is enchanting.
Mangala Giri Hill in literal terms means auspicious hill and has a temple of Panakala Narsimhaswamy one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. This temple is one of the mahakshetrams in India. The hillock has  a temple at its foot of Laxmi Narasimha. Hinkar Tirtha , the largest Jain temple in the region is located here. Mangalagiri is blessed with luscious scenic beauty.
