    Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Kochi, drive to Munnar

Our representative meets your family at Kochi airport and drives you up to Munnar, about 110 km and three and a half to four hours through the Western Ghats. On the way up you stop at the Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls beside the Kochi-Munnar highway near Adimali, and at Attukad near Pallivasal, all of which run full and loud in and just after the monsoon, before the road climbs through the tea estates into Munnar. Check in, rest, and spend the evening in Munnar town. Overnight in Munnar. Breakfast is not included on arrival day; transfers and taxes are.

    Day 2: Munnar sightseeing

After breakfast, drive to Eravikulam National Park, a UNESCO-listed reserve and the best place in India to see the endangered Nilgiri Tahr up close, which kids love. If time allows, add the Mattupetty Dam with its pedal and speed boats, Kundala Lake, the Tea Museum where children see how the leaf becomes the cup, and Echo Point on the Top Station road, about 15 km from town. Anamudi, the highest peak in South India, rises inside Eravikulam itself. A short walk through a working tea plantation is the easiest way to understand why Munnar looks the way it does. Overnight in Munnar.

Day 3: Munnar to Thekkady, Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary

Breakfast, then a 90 km, roughly three-hour drive to Thekkady, one of the finest tiger reserves in the country. Check in and set off for the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. A jeep safari takes you through dense forest, and if time permits you can add a boat cruise on Periyar Lake (charged extra) where families often spot elephants, sambar and bison at the water's edge. A guided spice-plantation walk nearby is a good, low-effort add for older travellers. Overnight in Thekkady.

    Day 4: Thekkady to Alleppey

After breakfast, drive 138 km (about three and a half hours) to Alleppey, the backwater town. Check in, then spend the afternoon on Alleppey beach and the quieter Marari beach, with an optional stop at the Ambalapuzha Temple. Overnight in Alleppey. Stay is included tonight.

    Day 5: Alleppey houseboat

This is the day most families remember. After breakfast you board a private houseboat and cruise the Alleppey backwaters, gliding past paddy fields, coir villages and duck farms while the crew cooks fresh Kerala meals on board. Lunch, an evening snack and dinner are all served as you drift. The boat moors for the night on the water, so children can watch the sunset over the canals and wake to mist on the palms. All meals on the houseboat are included.

Day 6: Alleppey to Kochi, departure

Enjoy a final breakfast on the houseboat as it returns to the jetty, then transfer to Cochin International Airport for your onward flight, about 80 to 85 km and two to two and a half hours by road (Kochi city and Ernakulam railway station are closer, about 55 to 60 km). If your flight is late, ask the agent to add a short Fort Kochi stop for the Chinese fishing nets before you head home.

Best places for families in Munnar, Thekkady and Alleppey

Beyond the fixed stops, these are the spots families ask for most, and any of them can be added when you customise the trip:

    • Kundala Lake and Mattupetty Dam, Munnar: pedal and shikara boats that even young kids enjoy.

    • Top Station and Pothamedu Viewpoint: the two big-view stops, best in early morning before the mist rolls in.

    • Kolukkumalai, near Munnar: among the highest tea estates in the world at roughly 7,000 ft, reached by a bumpy jeep ride that teenagers find a highlight in itself.

    • Attukad and Lakkam Waterfalls: short, easy walks that are fullest between June and September.

    • Eravikulam National Park: the Nilgiri Tahr sightings and the Rajamala hills, gentle enough for grandparents.

    • Periyar Lake, Thekkady: the boat cruise is where families most often see wild elephants.

    • Alleppey and Marari beaches and the backwater canals: swimming, sandcastles and the houseboat cruise in one place.

Things families love to do on this trip

    • Walk a working tea plantation and visit the Tea Museum in Munnar.

    • Take a pedal or speed boat ride at Mattupetty Dam or Kundala Lake.

    • Spot the Nilgiri Tahr and Nilgiri langur at Eravikulam National Park.

    • Do a jeep safari and an optional Periyar Lake cruise at Thekkady, the best chance to see elephants.

    • Spend a night on a private Alleppey houseboat with meals cooked on board.

    • Tour a spice plantation and pick up tea, coir handicrafts and aroma oils to take home.

For a deeper Munnar plan, see our Munnar travel guide.

You stay two nights in Munnar, one in Thekkady, one in Alleppey and one on the houseboat. We had a wonderful time in Kerala and had a great person in Manisha who helped us make the right decisions. The stays at "Coffee Routes" and "Dream Catcher resort" were cater made for a grand gateway from the bustling surroundings and busy life and we cannot thank "there holidays there" and Manisha
in choosing these exotic places for us. The weather was a spoilsport at Alleppey but we had a nice comfortable stay in the houseboat. Slight issues with the the AC functioning in the houseboat but that was a local issue. Manisha checked with us at each stopping point during the trip and made additional arrangements when we requested for a different pick-up/drop-off point. A very memorable and wonderful trip for me and my family. There Holidays There and TT are highly recommended for anyone"s Kerala tour from a very satisfied me :)

Everything was perfect about the trip. Thanks to Suneel and team for taking care of every minute details. It was a memorable Kerala trip for us. All the hotels were top quality. Only I wanted to mention, the Dew Drops hotel was very far from Munnar city. Apart from this, overall experience was very
pleasant. The taxi driver was more like a guide and very helpful. The boathouse was clean and the food was great!! Thanks team.

First day the communication with the cab service was pathetic I had to wait for 2hours at the airport. Then even after booking 4 star hotel I am informed that mineral water is not provided. Then I got to know that in Munnar that (Ayur green hotel) is a 3 star hotel. Then the last hotel ( Cherai B
each Resort ) had pathetic service ever. All the travel agents were very nice arranging the cabs and everything. Only hotel was really nice was Peppervine Hotel in Thekkady and the houseboat in Alleppey. I can't promise that I will use travel triangle again however I would recommend people because travel agents and cab service was nice. No other comments I have. Thanks for arranging the trip. My advise if the travel agent who is not available for that moment there should be someone else who should be in charge and customer should be aware as well that I need to contact some other person. Cab driver and Murali Travel agent from your associates were awesome and I have no complaints for them.

The cab and the driver were nice , cooperative, punctual and trustworthy. Hotels were good locations were nice. Food was ok not great. Thekkady hotel was good but it was very far away from tiger reserve. 20 km. So it took us half an hour to reach ticket window. We didn't get the tickets for the tig
er reserve boat ride. So we missed the main purpose of going there. Travel agent had no information about the availability of online tickets. As most of the tickets were booked online and we were disappointed that we could not get the boat ride. We had ample time before the trip to book the tickets online but could not get proper information from the travel agent. Felt sorry for kids as they were most disappointed. Houseboat was a good experience. Though it was a shared boat with 3 more families with us. Food was good and cleanliness in room and toilet was OK Cochin visit was good. But we visited the Navy museum which was very nice but the driver suggested it it was not there in our ieternary. Off-road Jeep Safari in Munnar.
