Kerala 2 Nights 3 Days Itinerary

Day 1: Cochin to Munnar

Your driver meets you at Cochin International Airport or Ernakulam station, and you head east on the Kochi to Munnar highway, about 120 km and 4 to 5 hours with stops. The first hour runs through rubber and pineapple country around Kothamangalam. After Neriamangalam the road climbs, and the Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls come down right beside it, fullest from June to December. Near Adimali and Kallar you stop at a spice garden to see cardamom, pepper and nutmeg on the plant. Tea estates take over for the last stretch, and you check in at your Munnar hotel by mid-afternoon. In the evening, walk the town market for homemade chocolate and estate tea, or catch the hour-long Kathakali show. Overnight in Munnar.

Day 2: Sightseeing at Munnar

Leave straight after breakfast for Eravikulam National Park, 13 km away at Rajamala, which holds the largest surviving population of the Nilgiri tahr. Private cars stop at the gate and the Forest Department bus takes you up the hill. The Indian adult ticket is INR 200 including the bus, and it is worth booking online the evening before. Back in town, the KDHP Tea Museum at Nallathanni, set up by Tata Tea, still has the old rolling machines on the floor and ends with a tasting. It shuts on Mondays, so a Monday Day 2 goes to the Lockhart tea factory instead.

After lunch, drive the Top Station road past Photo Point, the Indo-Swiss dairy farm and Mattupetty Dam, where DTPC runs speedboat and pedal-boat rides. Echo Point is about 15 km out of town, and Kundala Lake a little further on. Top Station is another 17 km up the same road and can be added on request. Finish back on the other side of town at Pothamedu viewpoint for sunset if the light holds. Overnight in Munnar.

Day 3: Munnar to Cochin, Departure

After breakfast, check out and drive back down the ghat road to Cochin. If your flight leaves after 8 pm or your train after 7 pm, ask your driver for the Fort Kochi loop on the way. You get two to three hours for the Chinese fishing nets on the beach road, St Francis Church (where Vasco da Gama was first buried), Mattancherry Palace and the Paradesi Synagogue in Jew Town. With an earlier departure, you go straight to Cochin airport or Ernakulam station and arrive by early afternoon.

Good to Know Before You Go

• Eravikulam closes every year for the Nilgiri tahr calving season, from about 1 February for 45 to 60 days. The Forest Department announces the reopening date. In those weeks your driver swaps in Top Station or the Lockhart tea estate.





• The Tea Museum is closed on Mondays, so a Monday Day 2 swaps in the Lockhart tea factory.





• Mattancherry Palace is closed on Fridays. The Paradesi Synagogue is closed on Saturdays and Jewish holidays and keeps short morning-only hours on Fridays.





• Heavy monsoon days (June to August) can close the Kochi to Munnar road for a few hours after landslips. Your driver takes the alternative route, and hotel check-in times flex.





• Winter evenings in Munnar drop to around 10 to 15 °C, so pack a light jacket from November to February.

There is no trekking, and inside Eravikulam the Forest Department bus does the climbing, which is why grandparents and small children manage the whole plan. Lunch and dinner are yours to choose, which in Munnar usually means appam and stew at a town restaurant or a thali near the bus stand.
