About Kakkabe

Kakkabe is a scenic, serene and exquisite place which is priviledged of being one of the largest producers of sweetest honey in thewhole of South east Asia. Nestled in Western Ghats, the place is renowned for its exuberant landscapes. Its salient feature isthat it lies under the silhouette of Thadiyendamol peak amidst thick dense forests and coffee plantations. One can have a lovely viewof the Arabian sea from the tallest peak in the region, Thadiyendamol. It is a tumultous mountain terrain interconnected withthriving coffee and cardamom plantations, sprinkled hamlets and paddy fields. One distinctive feature is the salubrious climatethroughout the year. Kakkabe witnesses the amalgamation of various religious sects as many communities live happily in harmony and peace together. Kakkabe is home to extraordinary orchids and is a known foundation for rain forest treks. Such forests are famous for richdiversity of wild life species like squirrels, deer, pangolin and wide variety of birds. Some of the popular attractions include Nalnad Palace and Iguthappa temple and for adventure seekers there is provision for trekking and rock climbing. One can visit the enchanting honey farms and the pretty and magnificent Nalnad Palace which is also famous as a hunting lodge. The landscape of this region is highly unexploited and unspoilt and the treks are challenging as well as rewarding for adventure seekers. Kakkabe is also famously known as bird watchers paradise.

Mangalore is the major junction nearest to Kakkabe. The nearest rail heads are Mysore(125km), Hassan(115 km) and Kannur(110 km). For connectivity via air, Mangalore is the nearest domestic airport(135 km) and Bangalore is the nearest International airport(250 km). As far as connectivity via road is concerned, Kakkabe is well connected by KSRTC buses and these buses access all cities in andaround Kakkabe.

-NALNAD PALACE: was built by Dodda Viraraja in 1792 and promises the tourists an unforgettable experience and the palace allures itsvisitors with awe-inspiring architecture and marvellous paintings. It is a double storied structure used by the Kodava kings. The palace is possessing intricate wood carvings with the palace being situated at the bottom of the highest peak Thadiyendamol.
-THADIYENDAMOL: is situated 1746m above sea level and has attained the status of highest peak of Kodagu district of Karnataka. It is the second highest mountain in Karnataka. Situated in close proximity to Kakkabe, Thadiyendamol offers lot of interestingopportunities to the trekkers. The panoramic views from the hill top are astounding. This peak functions as a landmark for seamenas it towers majestically over peaks of lesser height. It has an original unspoilt forest with tiny recurrent springs around.

-PADI IGGUTHAPPA TEMPLE: is one of the most significant temples of Kodavas dedicated to Iguthappa, another name for Lord Subramaniya. The devotees believe in the miracles by Iguthappa. Farmers pray for rain in the annual festival conductedduring March every year. Tulabhara, weighing oneself against fruits, sugar, coconut, rice etc is a significant offering here. The temple governs the cultural and traditional aspects of the place.

-KARADA: is having one of the finest ancestral homes in the Kakkabe region. From this place one can spot far off horizons withlarge number of peaks. Karada offers thrill and excitement for adventure seekers and nature lovers. Ancestral Home known asIyne Mane provides the necessary accomodation in a beautiful 250 year old architecturally ancient building. One can enjoy thedelicious Kodava cuisine and the lovely hospitality. Karada offers excellent opportunities for trekking, taking a dip down thestream or a nature walk across the coffee plantations and is an extremely enervating spot to visit.

-CHELAVARA FALLS: Majestic stream fall which is admired by large number of tourists who flock to this region. The roar of thefalls can be heard from a distance and the road to these falls goes through coffee and  cardamom plantations. There is asunset point 2 km from this place where one can enjoy the setting of Sun.
