Kolkata and major cities in Gujarat have great connectivity in terms of flights and trains. Major tourist attractions in Gujarat are close to Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, and Dwarka. Due to a great distance between these cities, travellers from Kolkata should take a flight or board a train. Are you looking up on how to reach Gujarat from Kolkata? Here are your options to travel by air, by train, and by road.
By Air: GoAir and IndiGo run direct flights between Kolkata and Ahmedabad. The average flight duration is up to four hours. To reach other cities in Gujarat by air from Kolkata, travellers can board connecting flights to Surat or Rajkot that usually make a layover either in Mumbai or New Delhi. Once reaching Ahmedabad or Rajkot, travellers can hire taxis for local sightseeing.
By Rail: Ahmedabad–Howrah SF Express, Sare Jahan Se Achchha Express, Porbandar–Howrah Aradhana SF Express, and Okha Howrah Link Express are some of the direct trains running between Kolkata and Gujarat. Travellers can reach Ahmedabad or Rajkot from Kolkata in 36 hours on average. Make sure to book your train tickets well in advance around festivals and weekends.
By Road: The cities of Ahmedabad and Kolkata are located in the far west and east corners of India respectively. Pankaj's 10 days trip to GujaratWe booked our Gujrat trip of 11 days and 12 nights with De Voyager and Payal was very helpful in planning of our trip and arranging the Cab and preparing the itinerary. We had only two issues: 1. We asked for booking Rann Utsav Tent city in Rann of Kutch but just a day before the start of our trip we were told that they cannot book Tent city for us as it was fully booked and rather they have booked White Rann Resort which disappointed us. 2. The Hotel Bait Inn in Ahmedabad was not at all a 3 Start hotel, the rooms were too small and there were no basic items like Soap, Dental/Shaving kit and water provided in the hotel rooms, We were given the soap after we asked the room service. Very disappointed with this hotel, please avoid staying in this hotel if you can. Overall the trip was excellent and our Cab driver Harshbhai was a gentleman and very nice person, he was very helpful and took care of us throughout our trip. I would definitely recommend Travel Triangle and De Voyager to my friends.
Nicks's 4 days trip to GujaratOn Day-2 sufficient time was given for recreational activities at resort. But only one small area having carrom, chess etc. was there. I wish there would have been some more of activities other than what we generally use. It would have been better if trip include Bhuj sightseeing on Day-2, as Gandhi hu Gam & Kalo Dungar were not that attractive as a tourist in my opinion. Or, Travel Triangle could suggest tourists for drop at or after 6:30PM on last day to cover Bhuj sightseeing confortable. We booked ticket for train departing on 3:55PM & were not able to cover Bhuj sightseeing. Mandvi trip was very memorable as my 2year old baby enjoyed beach time for 1st time.
Somyagupta's 4 days trip to GujaratThe driver of the trip was very rude .With elderlies ans senior citizen on board and he did not cooperate at all.He used to drop at far off places especially in Somnath where other cab drivers were dropping the passengers at the nearby point but our driver stopped the cab at city parking point. Similar behaviour was observed at other places as well. He refused to stop the car when there was a need for natures call to a kid.
Mayank's 5 days trip to GujaratHello Travel Triangle and Diu Holidays, I would like to thank you on behalf of my family for arranging the Gujarat Trip. We all had a good time, and we enjoyed the trip. Wanted to share few feedbacks: 1. All the hotels were good except the one in Somnath (The Heritage). Hotel had some foul smell (sever like), and smell was intolerable in one of the room. Breakfast also was not that great. 2. Irshad (Driver) was good, well behaved, and friendly. But faced problem with car as it broke down couple of times. Once in Somnath, and the second time Just before reaching back Ahemdabad Airport. We were fortunate that car didn't break down at some isolated place. 3. Also, in your iterinary if you can recommend some good restaurants and mention some local delicacies it will be an add-on to your services. Overall it was a good trip, and we came back with some great memories of Gujarat. If someone asks me I'll definitely refer Diu Holidays.
Rohit's 7 days trip to GujaratWe booked a trip to Gujarat (Ahmadabad, Dwarka, Somnath, Diu and Gir) through Aarti tour and travels during the Christmas season. The driver, Mr Pancholi was very polite and courteous for most of the trip and the hotels except for the first night were very cosy and comfortable. The driver also guided us throughout the locations. The agents service was prompt and when we raised the issue that our first night at the hotel wasn't very comfortable, he made sure that we were given better rooms on our return leg stay. Would recommend Daksh at Gir for stay and Krishna Beach resort in Diu. In all a very decent trip at a competitive pricing.
Ashwini's 9 days trip to GujaratOur experience with the Agent was not so good by the end of the trip. Initially she was good, friendly and helped us. But in the later part of the trip they did not provide information for Jeep Safari advance booking, could not see the Statue of Unity properly, the tickets were almost sold by the time we reached. Statue of Unity closes at 6:00 PM and driver took us there at 4:00 PM. The Agent was rude when asked about the Safari or the Statue of Unity Tickets
Sugandha's 5 days trip to GujaratFor most of the people in our group, it was a first experience with Diu Holidays and Travel Triangle, and we definitely are very happy with it. Some of the points we would like to mention - - We were able to customize the itinerary (before booking). - We will definitely recommend the driver and the cab we had. His behavior, communication, even recommendation for local food were very well. And he was very considerate too. At the end of the trip, we had a bus to catch. He waited till the time we were all settled in the bus, and only then left. Throughout the trip too, he was always on time, and was very cooperative. - The places we visited, Mandavi, Kutch, and Bhuj are absolutely beautiful. It's perfect for family trips too. People are courteous and friendly and as we were an only-girls group, we especially noted that it's a very safe place too. - Every place in Kutch has its own charm, but the Huts deserve a special mention. Definitely spend at least one night in the huts if you visit Kutch. The people managing these are the most hospitable, and the cleanliness there will surprise you. Thanks for the amazing trip! :)
Bhim's 7 days trip to GujaratOverall experience was really great, everything was as per the expectation and as told by agent. In 7 days journey we did not face any issue and enjoyed everything throughly. Our driver Laxman Ji assisted us a lot, he was very helpful suggesting site scenes and took vehicle where ever we asked for. Great experience with TravelTriangle and Diu Holidays.

FAQ's of Gujarat

Gujarat is renowned for being a dry state, meaning alcohol is banned in the state. It is not advised for travellers to purchase liquor illegally in Gujarat. However, there are some designated high-end hotels that sell alcohol to permit holders. A permit can be acquired from the officials by showing a valid identity proof. Non-Indians can also purchase a 30-day permit to buy alcohol in Gujarat.
Navaratri, Rann Utsav, and Uttarayan (kite festival) are famous festivals in Gujarat. The Bhavnath Fair in Junagadh, Vautha Fair in Vautha, Shamlaji Mela near Himmatnagar, and Dang Darbar in Ahwa are popular fairs to visit in Gujarat.
While Gujaratis are known for their vegetarianism, non-veg food is not all that hard to find in major cities in Gujarat. There are plenty of restaurants serving all kinds of cuisine in Gujarat.
Ahmedabad is considered one of the safest city in India, especially for solo travellers. The Gujaratis are very warm and welcoming people. However, it is best to take care of yourself like in any other place during travel and keep your luggage safe at all times.
