It was once a royal shooting preserve of the rulers of Udaipur. In 1764 during an attack from a neighbouring state, the place was used as artillery grounds by the Mewar kings, and one can still spot the old-timey canons in the area.

The top attraction here is the Tiger Lake which is also known by the names of Jiyan Sagar or Bari Lake. The temple was originally built in the 8th century by the Mewar King Bappa Rawal. There is also a cenotaph built in the memory of the loyal horse Chetak who served his master till death which still exists to this day.

The place is called Haldighati because the colour of the soil is turmeric-like yellow. It is said that during the battle of Haldighati, the bloodshed was so great that the soil itself turned yellow. The entire story is more myth than fact, but the folktale of the horse and the warrior became one with the place.
