Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary – Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Western Ghat Hills, and is known to be one of the most thrilling wildlife destinations in the state and country. This sanctuary has more than 1800 species of plants, 171, species of grass, around 35 mammal species, and approximately 265 bird species. No wonder why this sanctuary is one of the most amazing sanctuaries in Kerala. It is not incorrect to say that this is a place which is close to the heart of many tourists.
Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary – It has been considered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and is situated in Kerala’s Palakkad district. The rich flora and fauna entices tourists, and also the fact that four local tribes constructed their colonies in this sanctuary. Tourists can find 39 mammal species, 16 amphibian species, 268 types of birds, and 124 varieties of butterflies.
Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary – This sanctuary is located between Periyar and Cheruthoni, and is covered with lush green forests. Tourists visiting this place can enjoy boat rides and explore the beautiful view of the nature and wildlife like Wild Dogs, Tigers, Sambhars, to name a few.
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary – Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is also considered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is located on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border in Idukki District. Its sharp scrub jungle makes it different and unique from the other sanctuaries. Apart from the scrub jungle, tourists are also attracted by the popular sandalwood forests, nature walks, waterfalls, camping and trekking within the sanctuary. Tourists can also climb up to the watchtowers, and take a glimpse of the wild animal species.
