Situated about 137 km away from Aizawl in the Vanva river near Thenzawl, the Vantawng fall or the Vantawng Khawhthla is the most popular, spectacular and the highest of all waterfalls in Mizoram. It has been named after Vantawng, who was an excellent swimmer. Vantawng was such a good swimmer that he could hover in the cascading water like a fish, but unluckily during one of his performances, a heavy log fell from above and he died. The Vantawng fall is 750 ft high and it is risky to go near it since it is surrounded by thick dense forested hillsides. To view the waterfall nicely from a distance, a comfortable viewing tower has been constructed.

Vantawng fall offers a picturesque surrounding filled with bamboo grooves. The water falling from a height of 750 ft is truly a sight to behold. The waterfall can be reached from various places in the state without inconvenience. There is a cottage beside the waterfall, that provides tourists with accommodations. Tourists should spend at least one day in these cottages to delve more into the beauty of the place and have dinner at cafeterias nearby, while simultaneously enjoying the awe-inspiring view of the waterfall.

2. Tuirihiau Falls

Tuirihiau falls is an amazing waterfall that remains uncrowded most of the time because many people haven’t heard of it yet. It falls on the way to Lunglei, few minutes drive from Thenzawl. The Tuirihiau falls is upstream of the Vantawng falls and 24 meters shorter than Karnataka’s jog falls. Thenzawl is at a distance of about 3 hours from Aizawl. Going towards Lunglei, the Thenzawl town ends at the Vety farm. A few minutes’ drive from there will land you up in the Vantawng falls. A few turns upstream come to the Chawngchilhi Puk, which is a cave.

After covering a little distance more of about a minute, there is a signboard marking the path to the Tuirihiau falls. The existence of caves behind the fall makes it unique. A cave with a waterfall! People generally come here for picnics. Some bring packed foods while some bring all ingredients and cook here. It is advised not to dump garbage here and there and dispose of them at a definite place. For all nature lovers, this is a great place to enjoy having a great time.

3. The Khawh Pawp Waterfall

The Khawh Pawp waterfall is located in Aizawl in the Indian state of Mizoram. A strong water current runs through a hole in the rock which has created this spectacular waterfall. The route to this waterfall is a bit rough and confusing. After reaching the place, one needs to walk for a distance of 500 m. The natural beauty of this place attracts tourists every year. Lengpui airport in Aizawl is the only airport in the state and is connected to Guwahati and Kolkata. From Lengpui one can take a taxi for Khawhpawp waterfall which is 6.5 km from Aizawl.
