Yadagirigutta Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple has a rich history extending back to the Tretayuga era, enticing both history buffs and spiritual seekers alike. According to legend, sage Yadarishi, son of Rishyasrunga and Santa Devi, entered a cave wedged between the Bhongir and Raigiri hills and began a rigorous penance. Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, appeared to Yadarishi in five celestial forms: Sri Jwala Narasimha, Sri Yogananda, Sri Gandabherunda, Sri Ugra, and Sri Lakshminarasimha.
The temple’s origins are mentioned in the Skanda Purana, one of the eighteen Mahapuranas. According to another legend, Lord Narasimha, pleased with Yadarishi’s penance, sent Sri Anjaneya (Hanuman) to direct the sage to a holy spot. The Yadagirigutta Temple is a spectacular building made with 2,50,000 tonnes of black granite, displaying a fine blend of Dravidian and Kakatiyan architectural styles that captivates tourists’ imaginations. The main attraction, ‘Prahlada Charithra,’ is a golden sculptural representation of the story of Bhakta Prahlada, including scenes of Lord Narasimha killing Hiranyakashipu.
