Nameri National Park is located in the foothills of the eastern Himalayas in Sonitpur District in Assam, India. It is approximately 35 Km from Tezpur and 9 Km from the nearest village, Chariduar. The park shares its northern boundary with the Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh, forming an area of over 1,000 Km² (390 sq mi), with Nameri National Park covering 212 Km² (82 sq mi).
Declared a Tiger Reserve in 1999-2000, Nameri is Assam’s second Tiger Reserve after Manas Tiger Reserve. It includes two core areas: Nameri National Park and Sonai-Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary (Satellite Core of the Nameri Tiger Reserve). The Jia-Bhoroli River, flowing along the park’s southern boundary from northwest to southeast, is its lifeline. In contrast, the Bor-Di Korai River, a tributary of the Jia-Bhoroli, flows along the south boundary from northeast to southwest.
