Tso Lhamo Lake, or Cholamu Lake, is one of the highest-altitude lakes in the world, situated in Sikkim, India. Here’s how you can reach Cholamu Lake:
By Air: From Bagdogra Airport, to reach this place you have to either hire a taxi or a previously booked vehicle to Gangtok, the capital of the state of Sikkim. The trip is a little over 4-5 hours (about 125 km).
By Train: From New Jalpaiguri railway station, taxis are available from Siliguri to Gangtok or one can even opt for shared taxis. The travel time ranges between 4 to 5 hours depending on the road condition; distance is approximately 120 km.
By Road: To get to Lachen, you must go to the small town of North Sikkim, India. The distance of about 120 km can be covered by road in 6-7 hours. After Lachen, you have to go to Thangu, about 35 km away, which will take around 2-3 hrs. Lastly, from Thangu, one can visit the Indo-Tibet border at Tsa Chu and further trek/Drive to Cholamu Lake. This part of the journey can only be done with special permits and it is relatively a tough journey because it involves the altitude and terrible terrains.
