The Damro Labookellie Tea Centre and Tea Garden was known as Mackwoods Labookellie Tea Centre and is among the oldest tea plantations in Sri Lanka. It has tea plantations spread across 5000 hectares at Nuwara Eliya and other regions in the country. Currently, it is operating 12 tea factories that process and produce some of Ceylon’s best teas you have ever tasted. These include the CTC, Rotorvane, and Green Tea. The tea bushes that you see are replanted every century. The tea factory has innovated and adapted to various new techniques, enabling it to continue providing the best tea in the island country.

About 1000 visitors come to the tea centre and lounge every week to understand how tea is processed and taste the finest Ceylon teas. This number doubles in March and April, when the tea plantations fully bloom in spring. You can reach the Damro tea centre by deboarding at the Nanuoya railway station, the closest station to Nuwara Eliya. The distance from the station is about 20 km. If travelling by road, you can take an intercity express bus to Nuwara Eliya or hire a taxi that takes you directly to the tea factory and lounge. The buses are available from Kandy city as well. If you are taking a flight, you can use the Cinnamon Air services that will drop you off at Nuwara Eliya, and you can hire a cab from there. The distance is 16 km.
