Lord Shiva, Parvati’s husband, was enraged and, not knowing the boy’s identity, decapitated him when he arrived home and discovered Ganesha obstructing his path. After realising his mistake, Shiva revived Ganesha by swapping his elephant head for his own. Dodital gains a spiritual atmosphere from this story; hence, it draws significant visitors and pilgrims annually.

- By Road: Dodital Lake is well-connected by road to Uttarkashi, which is approximately 21 kilometres from the base village of Sangamchatti. From Sangamchatti, it’s a 16-kilometre trek to Dodital Lake. Buses and taxis are available from Dehradun, Rishikesh, and Haridwar to Uttarkashi.
- By Train: The nearest railway station is Rishikesh, around 170 kilometres from Uttarkashi. From Rishikesh, you can take a bus or hire a taxi to reach Uttarkashi and then proceed to Dodital Lake.
