About The Universal Studios Singapor

Universal Studios Singapore was the main bid on which Genting had acquired the right to build Singapore’s second integrated resort. The government of Singapore had announced on 8 December 2006 that the bid was won by the consortium. On 19 April 2007, the construction of the entire resort along with the theme park had started. After Japan, this is the second edition to the Universal Studios theme park chain in Asia and Southeast Asia’s first edition. On 20 October 2009, the Universal Studios Singapore published a map of the park to the public, unveiling the official plans for the park. And within 9 months of its opening, the Universal Studios Singapore saw a footfall of more than 2 million visitors. Universal Parks & Resorts consider and market this edition on the Sentosa Island to be ‘one-of-its-kind theme park in Asia’ declaring that this would the only one of its kind in Southeast Asia for the next 30 years.

The Universal Studios Singapore was opened for “sneak peek week” giving a quick insight of the park during the Chinese New Year Celebrations, from 14 and 21 February 2010, every night between 5 pm and 9 pm. In spite of the fact that no rides were operational at that time and still visitors had to pay SGD$10, it just took 2 days for the tickets to get completely sold out. On 5 March 2010, the scheduled time for the opening of the park’s doors was announced which was kept for 18 March 2010 at 8:28 am. This was supposed to be a soft – phase of the opening. From 13 March 2010 till 18 March 2010, the park was open exclusively for the team members of Resorts World Sentosa and their families who could come and visit it before the public crowd came in. As scheduled, the soft opening of the park took place from 18 March 2010 to 26 October 2010.

And on 28 May 2011, the official grand opening of the Universal Studios Singapore was held at last with a grand opening gala-night held on 27 May 2011. Many famous Asian personalities including Jet Li, Maggie Cheung, Zhao Wei, and former “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul performed or made an appearance on this gala night. This event was attended by over 1,600 guests. Universal Studios Singapore started their Halloween Horror Nights events in October 2011. 3 April 2019 was another milestone day in the history of the park as the Genting Group announced the expansion of Universal Studios Singapore by adding two new themed areas. The first one was Minion Park which would replace Madagascar and the second one was Super Nintendo World.
