History Of Tourism At Bogmalo

The unspoiled, carefree attractiveness of Goa’s coastline, which began attracting foreign visitors in the 1960s, gave rise to Bogmalo Beach’s tourism. The hippie movement first made Goa famous, attracting many travellers to the state’s pristine beaches. Still, the tendency changed to accommodate a larger spectrum of tourists, from leisure travellers to backpacking hikers looking for getaways. Compared to other beach resorts like Anjuna and Calangute along the same coastline, Bogmalo Beach has seen a slower and less dramatic increase in tourists thanks to its more secluded location, at least that was the case until the opening of the Goa airport at Dabolim, just a few kilometres away from Bogmalo which significantly increased this beach’s accessibility and ensured a high influx of tourists every year.
Bogmalo began to see the emergence of budget lodging options during the 1980s and 1990s, such as guesthouses and beach shacks that catered to tourists. The construction of more upscale resorts in recent years has signalled a change in focus towards serving a more comprehensive range of tourists, including families and individuals looking for comfort and privacy. The more popular this beach became, the more businesses flourished in the vicinity, giving Bogmalo an economic rise it hadn’t experienced in decades. The future of tourism in Bogmalo Beach seems geared towards a balance between growth and sustainability. Efforts are being made by the government and private sectors to maintain the beach’s natural beauty while providing visitors with a memorable and enriching experience. As tourism trends evolve, Bogmalo Beach continues to adapt, ensuring it remains a beloved destination that respects its history and looks towards a responsible and prosperous future.
