This park was earlier named Alfred Park which was named after Prince Alfred, Duke of Saxe Coburg when he visited India. Its name was again changed to “Company Bagh” during British rule. Finally, the name was changed to Chandrashekhar Azad Park, as a tribute to Chandrashekhar Azad, a great freedom fighter who sacrificed his life for saving his nation. It is believed that Chandrasekhar Azad had shot himself in this place while fighting with the Britishers. This place marks the importance of the sacrifices made and helps us remember the great legends who contributed selflessly to the cause of their country’s independence.
