Venkatapathi Raya II of the Aravidu dynasty of Vijayanagar, who ruled from Chandragiri, granted Madurantakam as the second capital, where he also ruled. Later Venkatagiri Rajas abandoned Madhurantakam and ruled their southern territories with North Mallur in Chittoor district as their capital. After the British came, the place came under their control and was part of a larger constituency.
