Adult: 200,00 VND
Children (up to the age of 12): 40,000 VND

The construction of the Hue Historic Citadel began under the reign of Emperor Gia Long in 1803. The royal palace had ordered the mobilization of 30,000 people for work around the embankments and canals. Emperor Minh Mang then ordered the construction of additional defence walls around the citadel from 1831 to 1832. Additional defensive walls are placed on the outer layer of the citadel to build the cannons. Apart from having a strong military stronghold, the citadel became the political centre. Hue City also served as the capital of Vietnam till 1945, when the country was divided into two parts- North and South Vietnam.

1. Ngo Mon

The South Gate of the citadel is known as the Ngo Mon and is one of the major gates leading into the Forbidden City. The gate features two levels, which were used earlier by the kings to welcome foreign ambassadors. The ground level of the gate had five entrances, of which the middle was the main one used only by the Kings. Mandarins used the two smaller entrances on the side. However, the soldiers, commoners and horses used the remaining two tiny arched entrances.
The second level of the Ngo Mon is known as Lau Ngu Phung or Five Phoenix Pavilion. It is divided into two floors and is made entirely of Tali wood. The roof features the structure of animals, and various mythical creators meant to drive off evil spirits. However, these gates and unique structures magnificently appeal to the entire citadel.

2. Thai Hoa Palace

The structure is supported by 80 strong pillars constructed out of Tali wood.

The observation station on the top of the tower is known as Vong Dau.
