    This year, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Maritime India Summit 2021 through a virtual conference. In the video meeting, Modi affirmed the central government is planning to invest in waterways infrastructure and ports. The PM also asserted that the Ministry of Port and Waterways has generated a list of more than 380 investable projects.

    While elaborating more on India’s coastline, the PM said that the coastline is a potential hub for tourism and the Indian government is projecting to establish landmark destinations around the lighthouses. In addition to that, the country already features 189 such lighthouses. PM Modi further talked about a plan focusing on improving tourism around the land adjacent to 78 such lighthouses. He added the major purpose of this initiative is to magnify the development of existing lighthouses and their encompassing areas into exceptional maritime tourism landmarks.

    Adding to the environment-friendly transportation and tourism, Narendra Modi said the government has already initiated a plan to functionalize 23 waterways by the year 2030. In the virtual meet, it was also revealed that measures are being taken to develop and upgrade contemporary water transport systems in coastal parts of the country including Gujarat, Goa, Kochi, and Mumbai.

    The Maritime India Summit 2021 confirmed that India is highly committed to developing maritime tourism. Before concluding the video conference meet PM invited the world to visit India and add to the country’s emerging growth. His words and energy asserted how the country is rapidly aiming to appear as a leading Blue Economy of the world.
