The name Mechuka can be understood by breaking it down into three words: men, chu, and kha. In the locally spoken language, Mechuka means medical water of snow. The meaning of the valley itself signifies the impact of nature on the Mechuka Valley, where the pristine nature of snow makes its qualities healing to the body and soul alike.

The valley is relatively new to connectivity with the rest of the state. Before the construction of a growing roadway system in the Mechuka Valley, the Indian Air Force often provided supplies from the rest of the country to locals. During this time, local tribes bartered with Tibet for essentials like salt and medicines and commuted on horses and donkeys. Although the Mechuka Valley has not enjoyed the attention its natural beauty deserves, it has now been discovered and visited more and more by tourists from across the country and the globe. The landscapes are becoming more and more popular due to exposure on social media and general word of mouth. Mechuka Valley should definitely be on your list if a natural getaway is your perfect vacation idea.
