    Serangoon Garden

Built in the 1950s, Serangoon Garden is one of the oldest estates in Singapore. The estate features various kinds of housing that includes terrace homes, semi-detached, and bungalows. In 2001, Serangoon Garden Village was developed in the place where the Paramount Building had stood. This building was located behind the Maju Avenue. The place has now developed a small shopping mall along with NTUC Fairprice and a DBS bank branch.     The estate was originally built as the residence of the British officers who were based in Singapore. In fact, the roads of Serangoon Garden Estate still bear the British names. In 2001, Serangoon Garden Estate was renovated and upgraded under the project run by the Government of Singapore to enhance the private housing estates in the country, that were built years ago and have now become very old and worn out. Not just the estates but their overall infrastructure was renovated. This included covering the drain on the roadside that were left open till now. New streetlights and signboards were also installed. The parks in Serangoon Garden Estate were also upgraded and beautified. The popular Serangoon Garden Circus was used as one of the venues for celebrating the millennium at a country-wide level.
