History Of Ranka Monastery Gangtok
Ranka Monastery, also called Lingdum Monastery or Pal Zurmang Kagyud Monastery, is a Buddhist shrine approximately 20 Km from Gangtok in the East Sikkim district. Founded in 1998 by the instruction of its first throne holder, the 12th Zurmang Gharwang Choktrul Rinpoche, it is one of the Kagyu schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
Lingdum is home to this relatively recently established monastery, with over 500 monks working to complete Buddhist studies. The Monastery at Lingdum is huge, with expansive windows and beautiful murals of the Buddhist gods and teaching. Being one of the biggest monasteries of Tibetan Buddhists’ in Sikkim, religious festivals and ceremonies are held here regularly to maintain the uniqueness of Sikkim’s spiritual heritage.
