Anyone who is familiar with Phuket will have heard of the sandy shores of Patong, Kata, Karon, and even Mai Khao. The frenzied & fast-paced life of these places is what most people associate with the beaches of Phuket. But the vast coastline of the largest Thai island also allows the existence of some secret beaches in Phuket that the couples are surely going to love.

These hidden gems of Phuket are pristine, less-frequented, and downright romantic that will make you come back over and over again. Here’s a list of the best of these secret beaches in Phuket. Have a look!

1. Ao Sane: Rocky, rugged, & naturally attractive

Beautiful and hidden Ao Sane beach in Phuket

Ao Sane is one of the lesser known beaches in Phuket. Yes, you wouldn’t find sunbeds, jet skis, or kayaks; but neither would you find hawkers or nosy tourists to disturb you on your romantic outing.

There will be some photographers coming here to capture beautiful sunrises & sunsets or regulars who are aware of the exemplary diving & snorkeling experiences that the beach offers. Its rudimentary bungalows and beach restaurant with adjoining shower & toilet make it one of the island’s loveliest secrets.

Location: North of Nai Harn Beach on Phuket’s southwest coast

Where to stay: The Nai Harn, the Baan Krating Resort, and the Sabana Resort are some nice stay options located closeby.

What’s special: Couples can explore the beautiful the sub-aquatic life here or sit back in a prime shady spot to enjoy the beauty of the beach and the sea.

Note: You will have to take your own mask and fins as there are none for hire on the beach.

The Ao Yon gems are two secret beaches in Phuket, at least for most of the world. Ao Yon Junior – home of the shrimp farm – is deserted and offers views of Chalong Bay & Koh Lone. Ao Yon Senior too is beautiful and is often praised about its fine white sand, overhanging coconut palms, and a bright blue sea.

Location: Between Cape Panwa and Panwa Beach Resort

Where to stay: Panwa Beach Resort on the Khao Khat beach and the upscale Sri Panwa near to Cape Panwa are the best stay options nearby.

What’s special: The Phuket Yacht Club situated here offers romantic yacht rides to Koh Lone. Snorkeling and swimming are other activities offered. And the lovely shady spots are perfect to relax or enjoy a romantic picnic. There’s also a beautiful waterfall behind the beach.

Beautiful & deserted, Banana Beach is a definite inclusion in the list of secret beaches in Phuket that the honeymooners or other couples must head to. The hidden Thai gem features glittering waters ahead of a 180-meter-long coastline.

Location: Between Bang Tao and Nai Thon beaches, 500 m north of Trisara Villas

Where to stay: Some upscale resorts like Phuket Pavilions, Trisara Phuket, and Andaman White Beach Resort are located closeby.

What’s special: The beach restaurant serves delicious seafood and other dishes under the shade of large trees. Several masseuses also sit in the shade right next to the restaurant.

4. Freedom Beach: Home to superb underwater flora & fauna

A morning shot of the Freedom Beach in Phuket

Surrounded by hills covered by thick jungles lies a 300 m stretch of white sand & granite rocks. This is the Freedom Beach that was fairly difficult to reach until long, and hence remained a secret for most of the world outside. Thus, it must be included in your Phuket honeymoon itinerary.

Location: Southwest of Patong Beach and northwest of Karon Beach |

Where to stay: Baan Yin Dee Resort and Avista Hideaway Resort are the resorts closest to the Freedom Beach.

What’s special: Couples can enjoy longtail boat rides to and from the Patong Beach, relax on the sun loungers at the One ‘n’ Only Restaurant & Bar, sunbathe, and witness the glorious sub-marine life.

5. Khao Kad Beach (Panwa Beach): Tranquil, offbeat, & stunning

Despite the urbanization in the area, Panwa Beach or – as the locals call it – Khao Kad beach has managed to retail its tranquility. Couples heading here are sure to love the quietness that the beach offers, in addition to scenic views out across Chalong Bay & Lone Island. There are even luxe villas & fishermen’s huts line on almost the entire stretch of beach.

Location: West coast of Cape Panwa, 8 km east of Phuket Town

Where to stay: Novotel Panwa Beach Resort is the best stay option on the beach and offers a lot of facilities to its guests.

What’s special: Couples can take a short longtail boat ride to visit Koh Lone or enjoy drinks at the beach bar while enjoying stunning sunset views.

Note: The sand here is rough and the waters are shallow. But the splendid views and the tranquility ensures a great time for the couples.

Special mention: Laem Singh Beach and Nui Beach are two other secret beaches in Phuket. However, they are currently closed for the public.

Would you still stick to the popular Phuket beaches or try these hidden gems instead? We hope that you’d include the secret beaches of Phuket when you plan your honeymoon in Thailand.
