The train services in Kashmir resumed last week i.e from Monday, February 22, 2022, after a deferment period of 11 months in the wake of the still ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. As per the orders of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, train services in Kashmir will offer better mobility to those commuting and will also pace the growth of the tourism sector.
After A Deferment Period Of 11 Months: Train Services In Kashmir Resumed
The Railway Minister – Piyush Goyal’s tweet also revealed other details such as the train services resumed in Kashmir on the Banihal-Baramulla route. It also stated the departing timings from Baramulla would be at 9:10 AM and from Banihal, it would be at 11:25 AM. Indian Railways has been restarting the number of train services in a phase-wise manner. Currently, more than 65 percent of the trains are operating in Kashmir, and over 250 train services were resumed in January. Soon, the Railway Ministry is expected to add more trains to the list of ‘operating now’. As of now, only the fully reserved trains are in operation mode along with some suburban train services.
Sources also reveal the Indian railways have planned to connect Kashmir with every corner of the country. The construction work for the 111 km- stretched section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link will be completed by December 2022. Once completed, the route will become the lifeline of Kashmir. The same project has three sections, namely the 25 Km Udhampur-Katra section, 118 km, Qazigund-Baramulla section, and 18 km long Banihal- Qazigund section. This project is yet to be completed, for now, one of the trending news is Railway Ministry restarting the train services in Kashmir.
