The inception of the idea of constructing a museum that displays the history of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) happened in 1988. This idea was later processed into S’pore Discovery Centre (SDC), which is another name for Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC). But more than now, SDC is not just an educational tool for the SAF. It has come to be a platform that encourages the people of Singapore to think about the future and be prepared for it.

In October 1992, the approval for building S’pore Discovery Centre (SDC) at the cost of $70 million was given by MINDEF. SDC was built on the grounds of SAFTI Military Institute. On on 23 November 1996, the museum was officially opened to the public and was inaugurated by then president Ong Teng Cheong. In 1989, SDC changed its nature from a historical site to an issue-based orientation. In 2002, SDC underwent many changes and was rebuilt. Today, Singapore Discovery Centre hosts various events, screen several movies, conducts discussions, school programs, and tours and also has some gaming zones including Paintball and 4D Simulator Ride.
