Vajra Master Jigme Dorje Rinpoche, a spiritual heir of yogi master Choying Wangpo Rinpoche, established the Khawalung Monastery. In 2005, the monastery was inaugurated and blessed. The monastery’s aims and objectives are to preserve the institution. It provides a place for monks and allows people to engage in religious study and meditation practice. The monastery includes an upper and primary school for ritual studies, and monks teach the students and enlighten them about their ways of life.
More than a hundred young monks came from various regions to Nepa to learn and educate themselves. By Road: From Shimla the Khawalung Monastery is about 3-4 hours drive. One can hire a taxi or private cab. From Narkanda it’s about a 2 hour drive. This is the most convenient way to reach the monastery, not only there are taxis and private buses but also there are public transports that are available.
By Air and Road:The nearest airport is near Jubbarhatti Shimla once you land on the airport take a taxi or a private cab to reach the monastery.
By Train and Road: The nearest railway station is in Shimla. There are toy trains available but that wouldn’t be convenient hence taking a road transport is way more better. Catch a taxi, private cab or public bus to reach the Khawalung Monastery.
