Singapore is a beautiful destination. It is one of the most visited countries in the world and travelers from all over the world visit the region. The main reason is that Singapore is aimed at tourists of all ages. Orchard Road in Singapore is one of the most popular places in Asia. It is located near a planning area under the supervision of the Redevelopment Authority. There are several attractions for everyone here. Apart from these attractions, Singapore is also known for its culinary scenes. If you like one of rice, pasta and seafood dishes, this place would be perfect for you. There are also many popular museums near Orchard Road that you can explore after a long day of shopping. The rise of Singapore is shaped by Malay legend. Prince of Sumatra in the fourteenth century, saw a beast which was later said to be a lion. For this reason, the Prince founded a new city and changed the name of Temasek Island to Singapura. In Sanskrit, “singa” means lion and “pura” is city. This is how the Lion city was given the name we know it by now.
On February 15, 1942, when Europe was in the middle of World War II, the Japanese stormed Singapore. The British, who were preparing and investing in the southern seas, were surprised when the Japanese invaded through Thai and Malay jungles. The British surrender was fast and many Europeans were taken to Padang and sentenced to Changi prison. The following years are a dark period in the history of Singapore. The Japanese treated the Chinese with particular distrust and many were tortured, imprisoned and killed, often with the least excuses. Food and other basic needs decreased during the war, and malnutrition and disease spread. In 1945, when it became clear that Axis powers would lose the war, the Japanese surrendered on August 14, 1945, in Singapore. The British returned, but their reign was now in question.
