Falling on the North-South Line in Yishun, Khatib MRT station is an above-the-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station in Singapore. Khatib MRT station is one of the two stations that currently functional in Yishun New Town. The station is situated at the junction of Yishun Avenue 2 and Yishun Ring Road.

The Khatib MRT station and the Yio Chu Kang MRT station has the section of tracks that are longest among those between any two stations on the North-South Line. Earlier named as Nee Soon South, the station’s name was changed to Khatib in January 1987, along with Yishun MRT station which was earlier called Nee Soon. Khatib MRT station was named after Sungei Khatib, which is the name of a nearby river. Yishun’s location makes it in the proximity of many tourist places. This place borders Seletar and Sengkang to its east, Mandai to the west, Simpang and Sembawang to the north, Ang Mo Kio to its south, and the Central Water Catchment to its southwest. Yishun is named after, Lim Nee Soon, a famous industrialist who earned prosperity through his rubber and pineapple plantations he had done in this area. Nee Soo was Bukit Sembawang Rubber Company Limited’s first general manager which was formed in 1908.

In 1976, the development of Yishun had started with the construction of the first HDB apartments at the Chong Pang area. Now the Yishun planning areas consist of the subzones including Northland, Yishun South, Yishun East, Yishun West, Yishun Central, Nee Soon, Springleaf, Lower Seletar, and Khatib. It will remind you of the British Command Centre which used to be the operational headquarters 9 meters underground. It remained a key security centre in the 1930s as a stronghold of Malaya Command during World War II. It was aimed to protect Singapore. This lovely park built on the site of an old quarry is the perfect choice for stealing away a few hours in the wilderness. You can stroll along the meandering paths or hike into the forest trails to soak in the serenity and lush greenery. There are couple of viewing points offering breathtaking views of the surrounding areas. The beautiful pond at the entrance, right at the base of cliff is a lovely spot. Spend some tranquil moments in the quiet park and also pay tribute to World War 2 victims at the memorial inside.

Divided into north and south sections, this lush green park has separate trails for bikers and hikers on both sides. Very popular amongst mountain bikers, there are graded trails, bike rentals and washing facilities too. It is also a lovely place to discover variety of flora and fauna as you stroll through the tropical forest.
