2. Ratnagiri

Ratnagiri, the birthplace of Lokmanya Tilak, is located between the majestic Sahyadri hills on the east and the Arabian Sea on the west. 3. Sindhudurg

Sindhudurg is one of the least populated districts in Maharashtra. That makes it less crowded and a go-for lace for tourists. Back in the 16th century, India had faced continuous attracts from British and Portuguese. It was Great Maratha warrior Chatrapadhi Sivaji who selected this place for his fort to eliminate the enemies of European and Siddi conquerors. The name Sindhudurg is a combination of words Sindhu and Durg. Sindhu means the sea, and Durg translates to a fort.

Since these areas lie in the coastal area you can find numerous forts around here. This Sindhudurg fort has around 52 bastions. It is so well made that it is almost impossible to locate the entrance for this fort by outsiders.
