    Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a densely Forest and Biodiversity Reserve in Sri Lanka. It is spread across the Sabaragamuwa Province and the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. This forest reserve roughly spans an area of only 20 kilometers. Not just within the forest, there are several other places to visit near Sinharaja Forest Reserve for couples. It has also been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. Sinharaja Forest Reserve is Sri Lanka’s last remaining primary tropical rainforest. It was declared as a World Biosphere Reserve in 1978. This ensures that it is protected against the rapidly growing commercial logging. The name ‘Sinharaja’ means the ‘Lion King’.  

    Sinharaja Forest Reserve is rich in flora and fauna. Animal species in the park include include Elephants, Leopards, and Purple-Faced Langur. It is home to several endemic species of trees, insects, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. The bird species include Sri Lanka Crested Drongo, Orange-Billed Babbler, Red-Faced Malkoha, Green-Billed Coucal and Sri Lanka Blue Magpie. Reptile species found here include Green Pit Viper and Hump-Nosed Vipers. 

    Best Time To Visit Sinharaja Forest Reserve

    The best time to visit Sinharaja Forest Reserve is during the months of January to March and August to September. Being a rainforest, this region receives rainfall throughout the year. Another reason for getting regular rainfall is because Sinharaja Forest Reserve is located in the Lowland Ecoregion. 

    Visiting Sinharaja Forest Reserve during high monsoon season is not recommended. November and December are the months when the monsoon is at its peak. The routes become muddy and slippery.
