As the temperatures in May started to climb into the 40s, the voice in my head calling for a trip to a cool hill station became louder and louder. Luckily, I had to look no further than the Kumaon Hills in Uttarakhand as my family and I enjoyed a 6 nights 7 days vacation exploring scenic places to visit in Kumaon that were blessed with amazing weather conditions.
This summer, my husband and I thought of exploring a different side of Uttarakhand. Since we have traveled to Dehradun, Mussoorie, and Rishikesh plenty of times in the past, there were a lot of unseen places to visit in Kumaon region that we could go to. We thought it would be a nice idea, to begin with lesser traveled places in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand like Bhimtal, Binsar, Kausani etc.

Details of our trip to Uttarakhand
While searching for places to visit in Kumaon, I bumped into a few handy blogs written on the TravelTriangle website. On that page itself, I got to know that they could help us book an Uttarakhand package as well. I filled up a small form, and soon enough a TravelTriangle representative reached out to me and understood my requirement for the vacation.
After receiving quotes from multiple agents, I chose the package given to me by ‘Spotnic Private Limited’ travel agency. The package was cost effective and covered most of the places we wanted to see.

Our Journey began From Kathgodam
We began our trip by taking a train from New Delhi and arriving in Kathgodam at noon. From there, our designated cab driver was present to receive and take us to Bhimtal. A few hours later, we reached Hotel Royal Rosette and checked into our room. The hotel was kind of close to the lake, so in the evening we went to Bhimtal Lake for some horse-riding and boating.
An incredible bird’s eye view of Bhimtal
The next morning, we went back to Bhimtal Lake and took part in a few adventure activities like zorbing, and paragliding. I must add, that my son was very brave during the paragliding session and not for one second did he not enjoy gliding hundreds of feet over the mountains
Later in the day, we proceeded for sightseeing in Nainital. We couldn’t cover many places as the driver wasn’t cooperating at all. Since Kathgodam, he was giving us a hard time by not even being 1% flexible with the itinerary given to him. We requested TravelTriangle to change our driver and they duly obliged.
For the remainder of our time in Nainital, we did boating in Naini Lake, and a little bit of shopping at Mall Road.
Here’s Everything You Need To Know About How To Spend 3 Days in Kausani
Our amazing journey to the queen’s meadows!
The next day, we checked out from Bhimtal and traveled to Ranikhet with a different driver. From this point onwards, we had no qualms with the driver, and the trip went by very smoothly. The new driver was very polite, interactive, and stopped the car for as many times as we asked him to. The drive to Ranikhet was filled with picturesque mountains that showcased beautiful places to visit in Kumaon.
In the afternoon, we checked into The Xanadu Resort, Ranikhet and rested for a few hours. We didn’t feel the need to do much in Ranikhet since the panoramic view we got from our resort was incredible.
Kausani: A scenic hill station with soothing vibes
After we checked out from Ranikhet, we started our journey to Kausani. We took our own sweet time to reach Kausani as there were a lot of activities to do in between.
First up, we stopped midway to do some trekking and reach a point from where we got a magnificent view of the Kumaon hills. And finally, we stopped at a small stream to click some pictures and breathe in the fresh air for a while. We arrived in Kausani at night and checked in Nature’s Valley Resort. We barely had time that evening to do anything but have food and get a good night’s sleep.
The next day was packed with sightseeing in Kausani. From lush green tea gardens, to intricate shawl making factory, and then finally the monumental Anashakti ashram- a place where Mahatma Gandhi stayed for a few months.

Hidden from the crowd in Binsar
We checked out from Nature’s Valley Resort and proceeded to Almora, our final stop on the list of places to visit in Kumaon. On the way to Almora, we stopped by at some peach orchids. Sweet and delicious didn’t even come close to describing those fruits we tasted at those farms. We bought some of that delicious fruit to take back home and carried on with our journey.
We checked into Mohan’s Binsar Retreat, a lovely resort located 20 kms from Almora in a small village called Binsar. Out of all the places we stayed, we enjoyed our stay in Binsar the most. The food was amazing, the resort location was perfect and the owner of the retreat was very courteous.
While visiting Almora, the advantage of staying in Binsar was that the place was away from the town and was surrounded by peaceful temples and monasteries. In fact, we could’ve have spent more than a day going to all these shrines that add on to an ever-growing list of interesting places to visit in Kumaon hills.
The next morning we packed our bags and began our journey back to New Delhi. Our awesome vacation was finally nearing its end, with many stories and happy memories. The driver dropped us off at Kathgodam, from where we had an afternoon train to Delhi.
