Assumption Cathedral History
In 1809, when King Rama I ruled Siam (the former name of Thailand), the French missionaries started the construction of this awe-inspiring Assumption Cathedral. The leader of the French missionary, Father Pascal, initiated the plan to build the Cathedral, and the construction was completed in 1821 when King Rama II took over the throne. Father Pascal and his brother approached the Chinese Philanthropist Low Kiok Chang to provide funding to construct the Cathedral.
