Originally a brainchild of Calvert Vaux who also happens to be one of the leading designers of Central Park, the Belvedere Castle in New York dates back to 1869 when it was constructed as the miniature castle on top of Vista Rock that also served as an elevated viewpoint for the visitors to relish the panoramic views of the Ramble, and the Great Lawn. Apart from that, the castle has also served as the official weather station for the U.S. Weather Bureau in 1919, and a gift shop in 1983.

What To Expect From The New Belvedere Castle In New York?
However, change is the only constant and that is exactly what Central Park Conservancy plans to be able to restore the former glory of Belvedere Castle in New York. Some of the changes that the conservancy has included in the plans are:
- To clear out the exteriors of the Castle
- Install a new drainage system
- Add brand new waterproofing systems
- Restore the main plaza’s wooden pavilions in the castle
- Renovate the upper part of the terraces
- Recreate the wooden tower
In addition to that, the Central Park Conservancy said, “Our restoration of the Belvedere Castle in New York will address the overall condition of its structures and terraces, modernize systems that support its preservation and use, and restore lost aspects of the historic design. “A future phase of this project will include providing an accessible route to the Belvedere, one of the most heavily visited destinations in the Park.”
