The Himalayas are a doorway to the world of mysticism. Trekking through the lofty mountains can awaken a sense of inner peace and bring you one step closer to nature. Read about Saumya’s girls trip to Dharamshala where she reaches for the stars and the Buddha in each of us.
I chose to go sightseeing in McLeodganj because I wanted a detour before starting the next phase of my life. Mcleodganj is a holy city in Dharamshala, which is famous for many reasons. The singular reason why I wanted to visit the hill station is because it is the residence of the Dalai Lama. The place exudes an exciting sense of spirituality from every crevice. This is just what I needed in my life at the moment. Luckily, it didn’t take a lot to convince my friends to pack their bags and set off for the mountains with me.

Our 4 Experiences During Our Girls Trip To Dharamshala
After a lot of thought, I have arrived at 4 experiences from our girls trip to Dharamshala that calmed my heart. You can read them here:
1. Triund Trek
This serene and majestic trek offered panoramic views of the hills from the top. We trekked through the lush green rhododendron and oak forests. The steep and challenging adventure was nothing short of spectacular. We enjoyed ourselves a lot and can’t wait to return to this magical land again.
2. Dalai Lama Temple Tour
This temple is situated amidst lofty snow clad mountains. It is well-known for its vibrant temple hall and paintings that adorn the walls of the temple. We took a tour of the temple and sought blessings of the Dalai Lama. We also learnt a lot of fascinating things about Buddhism and its tenets.
3. A Trip To Tushita Meditation Centre
Tushita Meditation Centre is a renowned Buddhist meditation centre in Dharamshala. We felt in touch with our inner senses once we stepped inside. We came across a lot of Western tourists here. The centre specialises in various meditation processes that can transcend into a state of peace.
4. Visiting HPCA Complex Stadium
The rolling meadows, snow-covered mountain peaks and the oak and coniferous vegetation adds to the sublime beauty of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium or the HPCA cricket stadium in Dharamshala. Imagine watching a riveting cricket match with the backdrop of misty and snowy mountains all around while breathing in the fresh mountain air. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?
Our Hotels In Dharamshala
We checked into Hotel Vijay Palace at Dharamshala on our first day. Our hotel room was equipped with a 24-hour front desk, a tour desk. Like almost all hotels in McLeodganj, this one too offered us free WiFi. We enjoyed our stay immensely. The next day, we camped on Triund top. We were provided with sleeping bags to keep us warm overnight in our camp.
Local Food Of Dharamshala
Gorging on a Tibetan food is one of the best things to do in Dharamshala. We had freshly steamed momos, butter tea, and delicious soupy thukpas on our trip from Delhi to Mcleodganj. We wanted to try the whole menu at every local eatery we stopped by on our girls trip to Dharamshala, but we restrained ourselves. With our bellies full and hearts happy, we proceeded to go shopping in Dharamshala.
Shopping In McLeodganj
The highlight of our trip was shopping in McLeodganj. We visited the best places in McLeodganj to shop for natural products. I purchased a lip balm and a charcoal soap from one of the local stores. I fell in love with the natural herbal ingredients used to make products. The lip balm and the charcoal soap cost us INR 100 per piece.
McLeodganj Travel Tips
Now that we have given you ample reasons to visit McLeodganj this summer, here’s a list of McLeodganj travel tips that I believe will help you avoid mistakes and vacation like a pro on your girls trip to Dharamshala:
1. Keep a bottle of sunscreen with you at all times.
2. Trust only government certified stores for buying handicrafts.
3. Try the local dishes instead of restricting yourself to Indian cuisine.
4. Haggle (albeit respectfully) with shopkeepers in McLeodganj or else you will end up overpaying for souvenirs.
