Saru-Maru Caves, one of the top places to visit in Sehore, is an ancient monastic complex and natural Buddhist caves for monks, with many stupas inside them. The archaeological site of Saru-Maru Caves exhibits inscriptions of the Asoka Period. Two of the inscriptions are in Brahmi script which were said to be carved when Asoka visited the caves with his family, when he was the Governor of Ujjain. The rock inscriptions here are the reason why history enthusiasts and researchers pay a visit to the caves. An important landmark of Sehore, All Saint’s Church was built in the late 19th century. As the church was built by J.W. Osborne, a British political agent, it seems to be an exact replica of the one in Scotland. Located on the banks of the Siwan River, the Neo-Gothic architecture of the building is the highlight of the church along with glass-stained windows and intricate carvings. Established in the Gopalpur Village, Chintaman Siddha Ganesh Mandir is said to be the biggest temple in Sehore. Another of the top Sehore tourist places, the temple dates back to the time of King Vikramaditya of Ujjain. It was renovated by Bajirao I Maratha Peshwa. The temple houses one of the four Ganesha idols, the other three can be found in Siddhpur, Avantika and Ranthambore. Modaks and Laddoos are offered here to Lord Ganesha by the devotees as they are his favourite. The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on the temple premises with great fervour, which fills the surroundings with a positive atmosphere.

4. Cenotaphs of Kunwar Chain Singh

Built in the 15th century in memory of Kunwar Chain Singh, a minister in Sultan Mahmud Khilji’s court, the Cenotaphs of Kunwar Chain Singh depict the Indo-Islamic style of architecture. Located on the banks of the Lotia River, the cenotaphs are made of red sandstone, with the platform surrounded by a boundary wall with small domes and four minarets. The interior walls of the cenotaph are embellished with paintings, carvings and beautiful designs. There is a small chamber where the carcasses of Kunwar Chain Singh are kept. The fusion of Hindu and Islamic elements makes this spot worth a visit.
