Rahul Kumar recalls his romantic experience in the hills with his wife on a trip to Sikkim and Darjeeling. They visited the charming and scenic eastern Himalayas and came back with a story worth reading. Rahul paid INR 22500 for his Sikkim tour package and it included their meals, transfers, accommodation, and sightseeing.
My aim was to visit a destination which would be scenic and at the same time provide us relief from the relentless heat in Varanasi. Darjeeling checked all the boxes and got me started on finding a suitable travel package. During this search, I came across an advertisement of TravelTriangle on Facebook offering it’s customers a chance to customize their own tour package.
I put in an inquiry and soon enough, was contacted by a representative from the same. I was told I could choose a package from different agents depending on what price and itinerary I liked and after getting quotes from several travel agencies – selected ‘Trip 2 Hills’ as our travel agency and guide. (they gave us the best deal!)
Day 1: Arriving in New Jalpaiguri and Gangtok
We took a train from Varanasi in the morning and reached the New Jalpaiguri railway station at 2.30pm. As we arrived, our taxi guy was present to receive us and with that we proceeded to Gangtok. We reached Gangtok at 7 pm and checked into the hotel.
After having dinner we decided to retire for the night and get ourselves mentally and physically ready for our traveling days ahead.

Day 2: Exploring Sikkim
After having breakfast, we got ready for our sightseeing tour. The day started with a visit to the beautiful Tshangu Lake and Baba Mandir. After a constant uphill drive for 3 hours, we were welcomed by a very gorgeous landscape at Tshangu Lake.
To reach 3800m above sea level felt like an achievement in itself, and to find a picturesque glacial lake at that altitude was an unforgettable experience. After an hour-long uphill ride from there, we reached Baba Mandir. A temple built in the memory of a fallen Indian soldier and a great place to visit. The temple is a testament to the harsh conditions that Indian army soldiers endure to keep our country safe.
Eventually, we returned to Gangtok in the afternoon, had lunch, and explored the local market in the evening. Afterwards, we proceeded back to the hotel and called it a day.
Day 3: Gangtok City Tour

Having enjoyed an adventurous day, we woke up and took our own sweet time to wake up in the morning. A bit later, we got ready for our sightseeing tour of Gangtok which would cover all the major tourists spots in the capital of Sikkim.
Before we began with tour, we checked out of the hotel in Gangtok. The tour started with a visit to the Rumtek Monastery and Banjhakri Waterfalls. My wife and I really enjoyed a refreshing experience at the falls and we finally ended our tour with a visit to the Flower Show in Gangtok.
We left Gangtok around 3pm and reached Darjeeling at 6pm. In the evening, we decided to take it easy and just have dinner and relax for the first night in Darjeeling.
Day 4: Darjeeling Sightseeing

Although we got up early to view the sunrise at Tiger Hill, the weather played spoilsport and cancelled our plans for the same.
However, we didn’t let that put a bump in our experience in Darjeeling. So, post breakfast, we got ready for sightseeing. Our day started with an enchanting visit to the Ghoom Monastery and I felt really at peace here, sitting within the walls and meditating at Ghoom.
We moved on to visit the Batasia Loop and then eventually took a toy train ride around Darjeeling. Later on, we had our lunch and then resumed our sightseeing at 1pm with visiting the Mountaineering Institute, Tea Garden, and Japanese Temple.
After a day packed with sightseeing, we returned to the hotel back in the evening. Our final dinner on our vacation was very delicious.
Day 5: Departure
We didn’t have much scheduled for our final morning and so we we had a late breakfast post which we checked out of the hotel. The taxi guy drove us to the New Jalpaiguri railway station where we arrived at 5pm for our train back to Varanasi.
Looking back at our trip, I think we got what wanted. A much needed relief from the heat, a comfortable traveler experience, and a chance to a immerse ourselves in the refreshing and rejuvenating surroundings.
