Aves Island is presently an uninhabited island that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands government has decided to open up for tourists to boost tourism in the union territory. With its stunning location and pristine coconut plantation, it makes up the perfect spot for tourists wanting to spend some time in isolation and enjoy the quiet of the island. Located in the North and Middle Andamans, in the Mayabunder district, this secluded area encompasses lovely coconut plantations, which is also known as the “Coconut Island”. It also features coral beds, deep forests and a remarkable coastline stretching over 2 kilometres. Aves Island is, therefore, a paradise for all travellers interested in camping or visiting to appreciate the islands’ natural beauty.

Until now, the island was kept a secret because of its uninhabited status. However, recently, the authorities have decided to increase the area’s status by proposing an initiative for the Aves Island Andaman tour and building an eco-friendly five-star resort open to all tourists. It is revealed that the accommodation, with the help of a private-public partnership, will provide over 50 opulent rooms overlooking the beautiful destination. From wellness arena to scuba diving and nature camping, the resort promises an exotic experience to all the tourists planning to visit the area.

Though there is not much to do because the island is newly opened to tourists, adventure lovers are recommended to look around the small jungle trails while visiting this beautiful island. They provide a one-of-a-kind hiking experience and allow tourists to uncover the island’s natural beauty. A trek to one of the trails will also lead the travellers to a lighthouse providing panoramic views of the island.

The island is also a wonderful photography spot showcasing a marvellous sunset, picturesque waves, and splendid coconuts. Due to the offbeat nature of the place, the water is so clear and clean that even fish are visible when looking at the water from a distance. Not only this, the area also serves its uncovered purpose by providing numerous picnic spots for visitors wanting to enjoy the tranquil island with their loved ones or wanting to explore the island on their own. However, tourists must note that swimming in the area is not advised or recommended, as the pebbles and stones lie deep in the water bed and can severely injure swimmers.

Since Aves Island is located near Mayabunder Island, it is recommended that tourists first travel to Mayabunder and then access Aves Island through Dunghi, as it takes approximately 20 minutes through that area. One can reach Mayabunder Island by getting on a bus from Port Blair, which departs daily on the Andaman Trunk Road through Baratang and Rangat. Pertaining to a 4:00 am to 11:00 am schedule, the buses depart from Port Blair daily. Riding through dense jungles and various ferries linked around the area, it takes approximately 9-10 hours to reach Mayabunder. On an ATR, it is possible to come across the Jarawa tribe. Still, it is prohibited to click their pictures, communicate with them or give them any item as it is essential to respect their privacy and is a punishable offence if the rule is violated.

Another convenient option is a ferry from Phoenix Bay Jetty in Port Blair to Digliput (again, via Mayabunder). Usually, two beats depart on Mondays and Fridays, however, the timings may vary sometimes and it is advised to check the online timetables for further information.
