The Battery Park in New York is a 25 acre park on the southernmost tip of the Manhattan Island. It used to be the site for the placement of artillery batteries in the early days of the city. The Park was formerly known as The Battery Park but in 2015, the New York Department of Parks and Recreation restored its formal historical name ‘The Battery’. Today, The Battery is a tourist destination housing many small monuments and exhibits dedicated to the early days of the city.

The first reference of the name ‘The Battery’ for the southern shoreline of the Manhattan Island came in 17th Century with the beginning of the Dutch Settlements in the modern day New York City area under the name of ‘New Amsterdam’. The Sculptor depicts 4 US Navy Sailors on a U-boat and is dedicated to the heroics of the US Navy for fighting the Imperial Japanese Navy during the years of the World War 2. Situated on the Hudson River just west of the Park, this sculpture is located on a stone breakwater just south of Pier A.
