They say to witness something truly special, you gotta travel that extra mile. Hemkumar and his family journeyed to the extreme terrain of the north to witness natural beauty in its purest form. Their vacation in Ladakh was blessed with scenic lakes, surreal deserts, and picturesque snow-capped mountains.
An important reason for this vacation in Ladakh happening was to break our mundane work routine and witness something out of the ordinary. A week-long break from the urban jungle towards a pure, and unadulterated city was just the kind of thing we needed.
In the recent past, Ladakh became the favorite domestic destination for people in Bangalore looking for a mix of adventure and sightseeing. Therefore, I thought it would be a good idea for us to try Ladakh as well.

- After landing in Ladakh, take complete rest on the first day in order to acclimatize to the change in altitude.

- Preferably, eat light and take in a lot of fluids throughout your vacation in Ladakh.
Day 1: Flying In For Our Adventure In Ladakh
We took a flight from Bangalore via Delhi and reached Leh at 8 am. We were picked up at the airport by our driver, from where he drove us for a check into Hotel Nature’s Land Ladakh.
Upon the medical advice given by our doctor, we did nothing but rest in our room on the first day to get acclimatized to the massive change in altitude we went through in a matter of few hours.
In the evening, we went for a casual stroll outside in the car and visited the Shanti Stupa in Leh. After offering our prayers, we returned to our room for the night.

Day 2: A Peek Into The History Of Ladakh
Post breakfast, we began the second day of our vacation in Ladakh with some sightseeing. First up, we visited the Hall of Fame museum dedicated to the fallen soldiers of the Indian army. From there, we went to see the amazing meeting point of two rivers or also known as the ‘sangam’ of Indus and Zanskar.
Later on, we made a few stops at the Gurudwara Patthar Sahib and Zorawar Fort. After the sightseeing finished at 6 pm, we returned to our hotel for the night.

Day 3: A Different World Altogether In Nubra Valley
This day, we checked out of Leh in the morning and traveled by cab to Nubra Valley. On our way to Nubra Valley, we made a small stop at the highest motorable road in the world- Khardung La. The incredible feat of maintaining a road at such a dizzy altitude could have only been done by the Indian Army.
At 3 pm, we arrived in Hunder, Nubra Valley and checked into our tent at Nature’s Nest Camps. The change of terrain was absolutely incredible as for the first time in our lives we saw a desert at this altitude.
Before the sun would set, we went for a camel ride to explore the endless sand dunes of Nubra Valley. Our evening ended with cozy family time talks in the middle of nowhere.

Day 4: The Incredible 32 Feet Buddha Statue!
This morning, we checked out from Nubra and headed back to Leh. On our way back, we stopped at the incredible Diskit monastery which was famous for having a humongous and expertly crafted 32 feet statue of Lord Buddha. Sitting in the presence of the meditating monks gave me an incredible sense of peace and tranquility.
Later in the afternoon, we arrived in Leh and checked into Hotel Nature’s Land Ladakh again. In the evening, we went to the local market in Leh to buy some souvenirs. As this was a tiring day which had a lot of travel and activities, we slept off the moment we returned to our hotel from the market.
Day 5: Hidden In The Mountains- India’s Most Beautiful Lake
This day we were scheduled for a trip to Pangong Lake. We checked out of Leh and began our journey to Pangong Tso at 10 am. Enroute Pangong Lake, we stopped by at the school where a few scenes of the hit Bollywood movie ‘3 Idiots’ were shot.
2 kilometers away from the destination, I was awestruck by the first view we got of the Pangong Lake. The rich color of the water, mountains in the backdrop, and the location of the lake made it one of the most special places I had ever been to. We spent our night under the stars and in a campsite beside Lake Pangong.

Day 6 & 7: Witness Royalty In Leh & Returning Home
On the penultimate day of our vacation in Ladakh, we checked out from Pangong Lake and returned to Leh. During all of these days, I loved every moment when we were on the road traveling from one places to another. The blissful landscape, postcard-like scenery, and ever changing weather always had something new to offer which we hadn’t seen before.
After returning to Leh, we deposited our bags at the Hotel Nature’s Land Ladakh again and visited the Leh Palace. We left our evening empty where we would just spend time with each other, look back on the incredible trip, and pack our stuff for an early morning return flight.
The next day, the driver picked us up from the hotel and dropped us at the airport for our early morning flight to Bangalore via New Delhi.
Fulfilling My Childhood Dream With A Trip To The Amazing Ladakh
Even as the plane took off from Leh, India’s most beautiful airport, a little peek outside the window gave us a reminder of the immense beauty we witnessed on our vacation in Ladakh. I felt blessed that I had the opportunity to explore a region filled with absolute beauty with the two most important people in my life.
A small note of thanks to TravelTriangle who made this vacation in Ladakh happen without any speed bumps and giving assisting to us whenever needed.
High points:
- Our camp was on the banks of the beautiful Pangong Lake which gave us an excellent view from our room itself.
- It felt nice reaching the highest motorable road in the world- Khardung La
Low point:
- We did not like the quality of the food at the hotel in Ladakh.
- In hindsight, a day trip to Pangong Lake would’ve been better than an overnight stay.
