Kaba Gandhi was born in Porbandar and shifted to Rajkot in 1874 when he got the post of Diwan or the Prime Minister of Rajkot State.

This house was purchased by the Gandhi family in 1881 when Mohandas, who later became the famous Mahatma Gandhi, was only twelve years old. It was the family’s residence until 1915, and many important events of Gandhi’s life took place here, including his marriage to Kasturba and the birth of his elder sons. The house was later turned into a museum so that people of the next generations could get acquainted with the life of the Gandhi family.
