Who knew that just like the popular Bollywood flick ‘Queen’, even I would go on my honeymoon alone. The only difference, that I accepted it all quite sportingly. After all, life moves on, why shouldn’t we?! And while it might sound crazy to you, it actually was. I did go solo on my honeymoon trip to Sri Lanka and Maldives, and it was one of the coolest trips that I have taken in my life till now.

Everything was unplanned, because who knew I would have to go on my honeymoon trip to Sri Lanka and Maldives alone. So, we thought of going with the flow this time and discovering the places as we come across them. Right from the moment my friend and I boarded the flight to the end of the journey, everything was a unique experience. Upon reaching the Colombo Airport, we drove for four and a half hours to reach our hotel in Kandy. After relaxing for a while, we decided to explore the city. On the next day, we headed to Sigiriya, where we climbed the Sigiriya rock, and visited the Dambulla Cave Temple. Even on our way back both of us stopped by at a Hindu temple. And all of it was a never seen before beauty! We then headed back to Kandy and called it a day.

Next morning, we left for Hatton and reached around 5:30 in the evening. The aim was to visit the Adam’s Peak. So, we took a bus from there to Sri Pada and then started our journey for Adam’s Peak at around 1 in the morning. Since it was a full moon night, it was a bit crowded, so we decided to go way up to the peak. Reaching the top and witnessing the beauty of the sunrise was a much needed heart-warming experience.

While there aren’t many stories to share about Maldives, it was an exquisite experience in itself. I reached there in the morning, and as soon as my migration process was done, I headed to my hotel. I relaxed till the evening, and then went out for a leisure walk on the local island.

The next morning was reserved for a snorkelling trip. It was a hell lot of adventure and fun. Being a non-swimmer, it was kind of tough and altogether a very different experience for me. The next day, I took a private island tour. The Fihalhohi Island Resort was again a super experience for me. I made some new friends and also met a couple from Spain. We went out for lunch together and then did snorkelling again. By the evening, I was way too tired, so I headed back to the hotel.

I woke up early in the morning, and went out to watch the sunrise. It’s beautiful how a rising sun can bring in so much of hope and positivity. Just sitting there and watching it was more than soul-satisfying.

High Points Of The Trip

Soothing my eyes by witnessing the gorgeous sunrise at Adam’s Peak was the first high point of my trip. I had never seen such kind of beauty in my entire life.
Snorkelling with fishes was the another highlight. The beauty of the waters and the nature just keeps on increasing as you go deeper into the water.
