Who knew that just like the popular Bollywood flick ‘Queen’, even I would go on my honeymoon alone. The only difference, that I accepted it all quite sportingly. After all, life moves on, why shouldn’t we?! And while it might sound crazy to you, it actually was. I did go solo on my honeymoon trip to Sri Lanka and Maldives, and it was one of the coolest trips that I have taken in my life till now.
The destinations for what they call it – the honeymoon trip, were pre-decided and the tour package for Sri Lanka and Maldives were booked well in advance. Thanks to the adrenaline rush for beginning the new life, I browsed a lot in order to plan the trip better, and that’s when I came across TravelTriangle. I went through a list of tour packages, after which they helped me customize an exclusive package for my trip, which not only suited my budget well, but also my interests. In fact, the whole booking process was very smooth and convenient. So, yes I got lucky there!
It was only days ago before the wedding that the big news dawned on me, but nevertheless I decided to take the break and enjoy myself!

Kick-starting the craziness with Sri Lanka
Irrespective of how much our best friends purposely embarrass us in public or pull our leg, they are with us in the most difficult times. And so was mine! I headed to the first destination of my trip with my friend, and I couldn’t have been more happy and lucky. Like they say, bros are for life!
Day 1 and Day 2: Exploring Kandy and Sigiriya
Everything was unplanned, because who knew I would have to go on my honeymoon trip to Sri Lanka and Maldives alone. So, we thought of going with the flow this time and discovering the places as we come across them. Right from the moment my friend and I boarded the flight to the end of the journey, everything was a unique experience. Unlike other people who prefer napping up in the air, we ended up discussing places to visit and things to do in Sri Lanka with a guy sitting right next to us, and then later with a girl sitting in front of us. It was super fun meeting these new people and discussing about different cultures with them. Also, a perfect start to the trip!
Upon reaching the Colombo Airport, we drove for four and a half hours to reach our hotel in Kandy. After relaxing for a while, we decided to explore the city. Tooth Relic Temple, Paramakanda Buddhist Temple, and strolling along the local streets of Kandy were a few things we did, which were quite refreshing to experience on the first day.

On the next day, we headed to Sigiriya, where we climbed the Sigiriya rock, and visited the Dambulla Cave Temple. Even on our way back both of us stopped by at a Hindu temple. And all of it was a never seen before beauty! We then headed back to Kandy and called it a day.
Day 3: En route Hatton

Next morning, we left for Hatton and reached around 5:30 in the evening. The aim was to visit the Adam’s Peak. So, we took a bus from there to Sri Pada and then started our journey for Adam’s Peak at around 1 in the morning. Since it was a full moon night, it was a bit crowded, so we decided to go way up to the peak. Reaching the top and witnessing the beauty of the sunrise was a much needed heart-warming experience.
The picturesque aura of the Adam’s Peak was so irresistible, that I ended up capturing a lot of moments while we were there. After that we came back to our hotel, and decided to get some good sleep as we had to leave for Negombo the next day.

Going Solo To Maldives
Now this is when the reel story of Queen started in my real life. My friend had headed back to India, and I was ready to live the adventure, all alone, but thrilled and motivated.
Day 6 and Day 7: Snorkelling and Exploring The Island

While there aren’t many stories to share about Maldives, it was an exquisite experience in itself. I reached there in the morning, and as soon as my migration process was done, I headed to my hotel. I relaxed till the evening, and then went out for a leisure walk on the local island.

The next morning was reserved for a snorkelling trip. It was a hell lot of adventure and fun. Being a non-swimmer, it was kind of tough and altogether a very different experience for me. But, the beauty of living life is in embracing the challenges and overcoming them. Isn’t it?! And I was too glad that this trip had been helping me gain a new perspective in life.
Day 8: Taking A Private Island Tour
The next day, I took a private island tour. The Fihalhohi Island Resort was again a super experience for me. I made some new friends and also met a couple from Spain. We went out for lunch together and then did snorkelling again. By the evening, I was way too tired, so I headed back to the hotel.
Day 9: Heading Back Home

I woke up early in the morning, and went out to watch the sunrise. It’s beautiful how a rising sun can bring in so much of hope and positivity. Just sitting there and watching it was more than soul-satisfying.
After that, I headed back to my hotel, packed my luggage, and left for the airport in the noon.
High Points Of The Trip
- Soothing my eyes by witnessing the gorgeous sunrise at Adam’s Peak was the first high point of my trip. I had never seen such kind of beauty in my entire life.
- Snorkelling with fishes was the another highlight. The beauty of the waters and the nature just keeps on increasing as you go deeper into the water.
The best part of my solo honeymoon trip to Sri Lanka and Maldives was that there were no low points at all. Everything was amazingly planned and executed. Thanks to TravelTriangle! I loved interacting with the locals and learned much more at a sooner time about the places than by actually visiting them.
Tips For Future Travelers
- Maldives is not only about private islands. You can also plan your stay at the local islands as there are a lot more things to do there.
- Try and interact with the locals at every place you visit. That’s the best way to explore a place and know more about it.
Never in my life, I saw these two things coming. One, facing a break up just before my wedding, and two, going on my honeymoon trip alone, which would actually turn out to be so adventurous and memorable! I feel cool and proud of myself.
Also, my overall experience was so amazing that I wouldn’t mind taking another trip anytime soon. I came back with a lot of memories, and a zillion beautiful pictures.
