A Christmas Vacation In Dubai With Family
Last year, during my son’s Christmas vacation, we decided to take a trip to Dubai. Burj Khalifa was on top of my son’s travel list and we thought this was a good time to make it happen for real because probably end of December is the best time to visit Dubai for its weather conditions.
I did all my research to figure out what exact places do we want to cover but then decided to go through some travel agents to easy out the booking process as well as planning out the itinerary in detail. I tried multiple ones but Travel Triangle worked out the best for us. They connected us to multiple agents who provided different quotes and they also followed up to ensure the agents responded on time. We finalized our tour package with SVS travels from Pune of all the options because they were really quick in responding to our queries/requests and they finalized the itinerary really well keeping our budget and our choice of places in mind really well. Only thing that they could have done better is, start processing the visa a little early because we had to wait till the last day to be assured that we will be traveling. Except for this, along with quick response they also ensured to book as in a good hotel that was well located in terms of accessibility to various Indian restaurants, departmental stores etc.
Now, getting to the vacation mood, below is how our 5 days went:
Summary of our Family Trip To Dubai Itinerary
Day 1 : Flight from Bangalore to Dubai. Visit Gold & Spice Souq. Dinner at Dhow Marina Cruise.
Day 2 : Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque and Ferrari World.
Day 3 : Miracle garden followed by Desert Safari.
Day 4 : Dubai City Tour, Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa.
Day 5 : Shopping at Meena bazaar. Flight back to Bangalore.
Day 1: Dubai – Gold Rush And A Fantastic Night Cruise Experience
We reached Dubai around 1 PM. The cab driver was waiting at the airport lobby to pick us up and helped us check-in to Hotel Panorama Grand by 2 PM. While the hotel was good and we overall had a great stay, the receptionist wasn’t very professional and customer-centric in her work which disappointed us. Since we had half-day to ourselves, we decided to explore the popular Gold & Spice souk of Dubai.
Dubai Gold & Spice souq is a must visit. The number of gold shops, collection of the ornaments in Gold souq were overwhelming to me. And the spice souq was a real treat to eyes, nose and tongue ;). We ended up buying quite a few spices and dry fruits from this place.
We had the booking with Marina dhow cruise for evening dinner. Driver picked us up around 7:30 PM. The cruise experience was quite decent – Nice view of Dubai with night lights from water, Amazing dance performance, Really pleasant weather and good food. With some really well spent moments, we reached the hotel back mid-night for a sound sleep.
Special memory of the day: The cab driver who picked us from airport was a really nice person, spoke to us throughout the journey and most importantly after knowing that we are from Bangalore, he asked us what was the original name of Bangalore. We kept giving multiple names like Bengaluru but finally he gave out the real name “Benda kaaluru” which was truly astonishing to hear from a non-Indian in Dubai and he just learnt this from his friend. Wow… Hats off to him.

Day 2: Abu Dhabi – The Best Of Spirituality & Adventure
This day was a lot of travel as we had to travel to Abu Dhabi to visit the Grand Mosque and get the taste of fun-scary rides from Ferrari world. I specifically choose this place because both my husband and son are crazy about cars.
Cab driver picked us up around 8 am. We reached Abu Dhabi around 10:30 or 11 am. The first stop was at Grand Mosque. They are very strict with the dress code and hence you need to be covered top to bottom. They provide Abaya for free for those who’s dress code wouldn’t meet their culture. So I had to pick one as well. Then they allow you to go through the whole mosque. This mosque has a gorgeous architecture and is so pleasing to the eyes. It has been also maintained so well. Even the photographs cannot justify its beauty and finally the chandelier was so elegant and magnificent.
Around lunch time, we reached Ferrari World to make it a fun-filled day. This place drives the people who are crazy about cars, even more crazy. It is filled with crazy rides and for those who love dry rides, you can be on them whole day and still not be satisfied. We weren’t up for those rides so didn’t try too many. Apart from the rides, they had some wonderful shows as well which makes you lose track of the time. They had also set up some good adventurous games for kids which my son enjoyed the most. The dance show on the ice ring is a must watch.
Special memory of the day: Honestly, I wasn’t very keen about Grand Mosque as I am not a big fan of history and architecture. But since we were in Abu Dhabi for Ferrari world, we decided to visit this place. I’m so glad we made that decision because this place was totally worth visiting.
Day 3: Dubai – The Spectacular Miracle Garden And An Even Better Desert Safari
Our next journey was to some special places that are hard to find elsewhere in the world. Morning we went to Miracle garden and in the afternoon, we went for the desert safari with dune bash.
Miracle garden is a huge garden of pretty flowers with various themes/characters flowing throughout the garden. It is a very colorful place and such a pleasant thing to your eyes. For people who love taking photos, you can spend hours together clicking some best photographs. I love the way it has been thought through and maintained. It’s astonishing to see such a garden built in a desert like Dubai.
Post lunch, we were booked for a desert safari. One cannot imagine skipping a desert safari after being in Dubai. It was a really long drive to get to this desert. There are quite a few things you can do here – Try the quad bikes on silky soft sand, Go on a crazy dune bash, enjoy some cultural activities in the middle of the desert (belly dance, tanoura Dance, fire show, henna painting, camel ride etc.). Unfortunately, we reached the desert late because of which we couldn’t enjoy the golden times on those wide-stretch velvety sand.

Day 4: The Many Wonders Of Dubai
This day was all about the grand Dubai city. Morning, we visiting multiple key buildings of Jumeirah. We spent whole of our afternoon in the Dubai mall and ended the day with the beautiful views from the 124th floor of Burj Khalifa.
Our morning started with visit to some popular mosques in Jumeirah, followed by Jumeirah beach, view of 7-star Burj al arab hotel view from the beach and Hotel palm Atlantis. All of these were beautiful places but the only regret was that we didn’t have enough time to spend enjoying the pristine water and pleasing beauty of the Jumeirah beach.
After this, Dubai mall was in our next turn. This is a really huge mall. It is easy for anyone to get lost here and Dubai mall App will be your savior to find the way to place you need to reach. Since I knew about this, we had already installed this app on our mobile. This mall doesn’t just have the all the popular brands of the world for shopping but they also have plenty of eatery places and a host of activities to do. We went to Dubai Aquarium and Underwater zoo both of which were a decent visit. Since the mall is huge, it is a lot of walking that you need to be prepared for and time flies mostly just in your walks.
Last but not least was our entry to the 124th floor of Burj Khalifa. It is the world’s tallest building and the view from the top is mesmerizing. The 125th floor is also open to public and is a little bit open space where you can feel the cool breeze and feel the height. Only sad thing about this place was that most of the time here goes in waiting to get to the top or waiting to get down because of the long queues.
Day 5: A Relaxing Day And Some Last Minute Shopping!
On the last day, we didn’t do much as the last 4 days were a lot of continuous activity for us. We mostly relaxed and took a quick walking tour to Meena bazaar doing some last minute shopping. We had booked for evening flight so had enough time to just relax and do some shopping worth it like the Date-Almond chocolates, cosmetics etc.
Important Information To Remember When Taking A Family Trip To Dubai
Food: I didn’t mention about food anywhere. The place where our hotel was situated had plenty of options around at walkable distance. We are vegetarians but we didn’t face any problem finding good food options both around the hotel and all the places we visited.
Weather: I chose to visit Dubai in December because I clearly wanted to prevent the hot summers of Dubai. The weather was amazingly pleasant and gave the same feeling as that of Bangalore weather. We also had to use jackets for the first couple of days due to the cold breeze.
Mobile Connectivity: To travel places, you might end-up heavily depending on apps (cab booking, whatsapp etc.). Buying the sim card in Dubai is expensive and data is even more expensive. We missed it but recommend people to buy the sim from the airport itself where I have heard the sim could be bought for free by the visitors. While data pack is still an issue, most places in Dubai has free WiFi that turns out to be the savior
