About Great Sand Dunes National Park
The park was created in 1932, at the time of the Great Depression. But the boundaries were finalised much later. The park is a neighbour to a number of other natural sites, some of which are protected reserves. And so, while the park boundaries may be limited, the surrounding area is also rich in all the natural resources.
Entry Fee: Entry fees are applicable for adults and vehicles. Entry for children below the age of 15 is free. You can also avail an annual permit.

When it comes to the Great Sand Dunes National Park weather, they are quite extreme. The summers have varied temperatures throughout the day, with hot mornings and afternoons and cool nights. How To Reach Great Sand Dunes National Park
By air: The nearest airport is the Alamosa airport, but it doesn’t have the best connectivity. The nearest major airport would be in Denver, which is almost 150 miles from the national park.
By road: You can either take the Colorado SR 17, or there is another road via the US 160. You must note that ways of reaching the park are limited by road.

Where To Stay In Great Sand Dunes National Park
The lodges near the park are great options for accommodation. There are no lodges inside the premises of the park. But the ones located outside are in walking distance, and offer comfortable services. There are some good accommodations located just outside the park, include Great Sand Dunes Lodge, Oasis B&B and Sand Dunes Motel.
Although lodging may not be possible inside the park, Great Sand Dunes National Park camping is a popular activity. A total of 88 sites are available, equipped with all the essential amenities. RV options are also available. Visitors have often reviewed it as one of the best camping spots.

Things To Do At The Great Sand Dunes National Park
Not only do families come here for a weekend getaway, but people from all over the country come here only for a view of the country’s largest, highest dunes. From all the activities that can be enjoyed here, the most popular ones are:

4. Occasional Beaching
With the Mosca Creek appearing through the dunes, its appearance brings the park a wonderful beach like atmosphere. This usually happens in the spring. You will get to see a number of families picnicking by the creek, enjoying beach games. The creek is extremely shallow, and thus swimming is not possible.
