Vinamra Bansal talks about his honeymoon trip to New Zealand and elaborates on how he and his wife were both awestruck by the natural ambiance of the country. Describing his experience to be a combination of adventure, nature, and romance, he shares his story with us. Vinamra booked his honeymoon package from TravelTriangle for Rs. 4,98,000 and it included their flights, accommodation, transfers, and daily breakfast.
Like every other newly married couple, we wanted our honeymoon to be the best. And so during our search for honeymoon destinations, my wife and I shortlisted 2 countries – Australia and New Zealand. These were destinations recommended by family and friends but we selected them because they offered us the real deal – an extended stay, amazing natural beauty, and world class conveniences. Out of the 2, we finally chose New Zealand since apart from all the natural beauty and scenic attractions, it also offered us adventure activities like Skydiving, Quad Biking, Glacier Treks, and Gondola Ride.
I booked my New Zealand Honeymoon Tour Package from TravelTriangle after a thorough online research. Their travel representative guided me well regarding the destination and finally when all my queries were resolved, I booked the package from my preferred travel agent- Travelfunda on their platform.
Day 1: Auckland – Arriving in Auckland and settling down
Finally, the day came when we were to begin our honeymoon and frankly after all the pomp and show of the marriage, my wife and I were really looking forward to spending some quality time together. We took our flight to New Zealand from Mumbai and after a long journey of almost 17 hours, reached Auckland in a happy but jet lagged state. However as luck would have it, we soon found out that our luggage had been misplaced by the airlines and we had to waste our precious time waiting till they found it.
A few hours later, the airlines managed to find our luggage and finally when we were handed over our belongings, we proceeded to our hotel booked in Auckland. The rest of the day was spent settling in the hotel and meeting our relatives in the city. In the night, we slept like logs, compensating for our jet lagged bodies and lack of sleep.

Day 2 : Auckland – A visit to the Waiheke Island and the Sky Tower
This was the first day of sightseeing in New Zealand and we were damn excited! Our first stop was Waiheke Island and we took a ferry to reach there. It was on this ferry between the grand blue ocean and the misty blue sky that we realized our dream honeymoon was finally falling into place! Suddenly everything felt romantic and beautiful. Waiheke Island too was an out of the world experience and we loved every part of it. Its beautiful beaches, marvelous sceneries, and amazing weather had a mesmerizing effect on us.

Later back on the mainland (Auckland city), we proceeded for the second attraction of the tour – Sky Tower. The panoramic view of Auckland from this huge multi-storied tower was, for lack of better words – majestic! It was scary and thrilling to be standing at such a height and looking down the city!
Tired but happy, we later had our dinner and returned to the hotel for a comfortable overnight stay.
Day 3: Paihia – A visit to the Bay of Islands and a helicopter ride to ‘Hole in the Rock’
This was another exciting day in our New Zealand Tour Itinerary as we were to visit the famous Bay of Islands. Moreover to spice things up, I decided to take a rented car and drive there myself. Although a bit nervous in the beginning, I soon gained confidence and continued the journey with great enthusiasm driving in a new country. Three hours later, we reached the main waterfront town of Paihia and it was here that we realized we wanted our hotel to be near this place and not 10 km away from it. So we booked a new hotel in Paihia and checked in.
We later proceeded to a famous place in the Bay of Islands called ‘Hole in the Rock’. Realizing that this beauty would be better experienced on a helicopter, we decided to go for it and were NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL!
‘Hole in the Rock’ looked amazing from the sky and we were literally taken aback by the natural beauty that New Zealand has in store for travelers. That helicopter ride and its mesmerizing views will forever remain in our memory.
Post the tour, we had our dinner and then returned to the hotel.
Day 4: Paihia- The Scuba Diving experience
This day, post a delicious breakfast, we proceeded for the Scuba Diving as part of our New Zealand Tour Itinerary. We first went to the diving shop in Paihia and then after completing the formalities, reached the diving point after a 45-minute ferry ride. Unfortunately, my wife didn’t go for scuba diving due the fear of water, but I decided to go for it.
The scuba diving experience for me was mind blowing and a game changer since I had never seen marine life in such close proximity. The whole experience was surreal and enchanting and down in the water, I wished I could stay there forever.

Day 5: Auckland – Celebrating Valentine’s Day in Auckland
We were to go to Rotorua today and after breakfast, we left for the destination in the rented car that I was driving. Rotorua was a 6-hour drive from Paihia and since it was the valentine’s day, we decided to stop in Auckland and spend the day celebrating in the city. It was a decision that paid off since we could witness the amazing nightlife in Auckland and experience its casinos and pubs. We partied until the wee hours of the morning and it was the best Valentine’s experience for us!
Day 6: Rotorua – A visit to the Thermal village in Rotorua
Next morning after breakfast, we continued our journey for Rotorua and after approximately 3-4 hours, reached our destination. The thermal village in Rotorua was a unique experience and we saw its main attraction – the ‘natural hot water pools’ formed due to geothermal activity in the area. Everything from cleaning to cooking was being done in the hot water of the place. It was truly marvelous!

Day 7: Auckland to Queenstown and hot water pool session
Since we had a flight to catch to Queenstown this day, we started our ride towards Auckland in the morning. After a 3 hour ride by road, we reached Auckland and were soon on the flight to Queenstown. Upon arrival in Queenstown, we checked into the hotel and rested for a while before going for another attraction in the mountains. This attraction turned out to be a relaxing hot water pool experience in a resort overlooking the hills and boy – it was a sight to behold! This was a one-hour activity (definitely left us wanting for more) after which we returned to the hotel.
Day 8: Queenstown – Experiencing the Shotover & Gondola ride
Another day, another adventure, this time even more exciting since we had a lot of activities planned. The first one was the shotover ride where we were put in a motor raft on a speeding river. It was such a thrilling experience that we could feel our heartbeat pounding. It was almost like the big daddy of river rafting!
15 Fun Things To Do In New Zealand
Next was the Gondola ride, which once again turned out be an awesome experience. The view from the top was serene and nice and since it had stopped raining, we could soak in the beauty of nature properly.
Day 9: Queenstown – The Milford Sound Tour
This was a day planned for the Milford Sound Tour and after breakfast, we left in a shuttle for the point of attraction. It was a 4-hour shuttle (bus) ride and since it had started raining, we could witness more than 150 big and small waterfalls on the way. It was truly enchanting to see nature do its work so beautifully!
Coming to the Milford Sound cruise, it was once again a surreal experience for us since there was mist, clouds, and mountains everywhere. The cruise later opened up to the magnificent ocean and it was such a grand romantic experience for us!
Day 10: Queenstown – A canceled Sky Diving experience and the subsequent heartbreak
Sky Diving was something that I was looking forward to, the most in our New Zealand Tour Itinerary. And we were finally going to do it, jump from the sky and have the most thrilling experience ever. However, God had different plans, on reaching the skydiving spot and filling in all the formalities, we were told we could not do it since the weather was not suitable. I was so heartbroken by this rejection that I straight away went to the hotel and slept my anger off.
Later, my wife and I returned to the spot and tried doing parasailing, but that too was not allowed to due to the weather. Finally with nothing to do, we took our camera and went around clicking pictures. I guess God had better plans for us, and I was right.
Day 11: Queenstown – Franz Josef Glacier
We visited the famous Franz Josef Glacier today and the place was some 4-5 hours (shuttle ride) away from Queenstown. The glacier visit was a great experience and we loved every bit of it. We came back to the hotel later, rested for a while, and then went out to explore the city on our own!
Day 12: Queenstown – The glacier walk and quad bike experience
This was the day we did the glacier walk and trekked to its nearest point. This trek was an exciting experience since we had to cross a forest on the way. On reaching the point, my wife and I were so moved by the beauty that we decided to go the main glacier itself. We booked a helicopter ride for it but unfortunately the weather played spoilsport again and we were denied permission.
They Fell In Love, Got Married But Jobs Pulled Them Apart: Read How Travel United Them Again
Deciding not to be disheartened, this time, my wife and I chose to do quad bike safari which ultimately turned out to be a great decision for it was full of crazy fun! The bike safari had us passing through the forest, river, and farm. We even ate wild berries on the way!
Day 13: Queenstown to Greymouth to Auckland – The TranzAlpine Train experience
We decided to go to Greymouth since we wanted to experience the famous TranzAlpine Train that ran from Greymouth to Christchurch. We were particularly excited for this journey for we had heard a lot about the train, its service, and the scenic views that one could see on the way.
True to its fame, the train was an amazing experience. We could see the picturesque countryside from the open deck and it was truly a one of a kind journey.
The train, however, was delayed and we reached Christchurch later than the usual time. However, we were able to catch our flight to Auckland at the last minute.
Day 14: Auckland to New Delhi – Bidding farewell to New Zealand
We reached Auckland by midnight and stayed at the airport for our flight to New Delhi scheduled early morning. A beautiful romantic journey had ended.
New Zealand proved to be an excellent honeymoon destination for my wife and I. We loved its romantic ambiance, friendly caring people, and the overall natural beauty of the country. I was awestruck by the number of activities it had on offer and given a chance, we would definitely want to visit it again. In the end, I am glad to say that New Zealand brought us together and gave us the perfect beginning for our love story.
High Points: Bay of Islands, Sightseeing in Auckland, Waiheke Island, Hole in the Rock, Scuba Diving, Thermal Village, Milford Sound, Franz Josef Glacier, Quad Biking, and the TranzAlpine Train ride.
