    Hatton is essentially one of the main tea plantation areas in Sri Lanka. Some of the pathfinders of the tea industry have their origins from here. One such tea estates belong to Mackwoods Tea which was founded by a British captain with the same name in the year 1841. The company changed ownership in 1956 and after that, it has grown tremendously as a global tea brand.     A protected area by the UNESCO World Heritage, Horton Plains is one of the national parks located in the Central Highlands of the country. Abundant with some rare collection of both flora and fauna, this park is also famous for its trekking routes. The highest tableland in Sri Lanka, the grassland and the network of streams and rivers give this place a varied eco diverse landscape. One of the trekking routes leads to the well known scenic spot World’s End. This is a steep slope with a drop of 900 meters and is located in the southern corner of the park.
