40 Best Things To Do In Ladakh That You Can’t Afford To Miss In 2022!

Best Weather To Travel To Leh Ladakh

As we stay in the Southern coastal part of India, we were bored with the hot and humid weather thus we picked Ladakh as our escape. The weather there was chilling and we encountered an almost subzero temperature which was quite hard to bear but we had a fun time enjoying this freezing atmosphere.

Must-Try Experiences In Ladakh

While you travel to Leh Ladakh, you’ll witness many attractions that are not to be missed if you’re traveling for the first time. From adventure to sightseeing there is everything to experience.

1. An Exciting Drive To The Magnetic Hills

hall of fame in Ladakh

On the first day, we went to visit the Magnetic hill which was one of the major adventure experiences to tick off from our bucket list. We rented a bullet and drove along our SUV which was an experience that cannot be expressed in words. The hill is surrounded by a picturesque view of the small hills. Enroute this natural marvel we halted at the Gurudwara Pathar Sahib resting on the Leh-Srinagar road. Followed by this we also took a drive towards the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus which was there on the way to Sham Valley. Out of all this, the place which marked a place in our hearts for forever was the Hall of Fame which is a museum maintained by the Indian army which is a place worth visiting. We literally got goosebumps while seeing the Kargil war preparation pictures.

2. Fighting The Fear Of Heights At Khardungla Pass

We rented a bullet to drive all the way to Khardungla Pass which is the highest motorable road in the world and driving on this is one of the most adventurous things to do in Leh Ladakh. It was quite a hectic task to drive over the uneven trails but there is no doubt that we enjoyed it to the core. The roads were quite slippery but once we reached the top of the world it seemed all worth it. After gazing at the beauty of Khardungla Pass, we headed towards the Deskit Gompa where we tried meditating there sitting among the monks. After this we headed to the Hunder village to see the Double humped camels roaming around the desert. The last resort of our second was Nubra Valley where we ended our day.

3. Capture The Magnificent Beauty Of Pangong Tso

A Ladakh trip is incomplete without visiting the Pangong Tso lake which is the gem of this hidden valley. Resting at a height of 14000 feet, trust me the pictures can’t just define the beauty of this natural treasure. With the crystal clear blue water which also changes color, this was the place which actually left us feeling enchanted. On the way back we also drove to the Changla Pass which is the second-highest motorable road.

4. Living Like A Local At Thiksey Gompa

Ladakh is truly a home to an abundant number of monasteries and while here we cannot dare to visit one of the famous monasteries. Located at an altitude of 3,600m in the Thiksey village, the architecture of monastery and the peace enveloping it just left us mesmerized. After this, we also visited the Sindhu Ghat from where the Indus river flows through Ladakh prior to entering Pakistan.

Our Hotel In Ladakh

In the first two days of our trip, we stayed at the Royal Plaza at Leh which was a 3-star property and equipped with all the amenities. The only problem we had was that there was no room heater and the breakfast was not good. But the staff was quite active and helpful which made our stay less stressful. On the third day of our trip, we shifted to the Sand dunes view resort at Nubra Valley. The cottages were clean but there was frequent power failure which is the biggest problem in the valley. In the last two days, we stayed at the City Palace in Leh which was a 4-star property and provided us with all the amenities required for a comfortable stay.

Shopping In Ladakh

we are surrounded by hilly areas

The markets in Ladakh are loaded with all kinds of items which are sold by the locals and there are shopping places in Ladakh which are just light to the budget. From Tibetan shawls, sweaters to other small souvenirs to buy, there is a long list of things to buy in Ladakh which actually satisfied my wife’s shopaholic cravings.
