The Kumasi Zoological Garden opened in 1957 and since then it is not only a great place for tourist visit but also provides the necessary shelters for all the endangered and rare species of animals. With around 60 kinds of different species of animals including buffaloes, lion, chimpanzees etc, the zoo also has the equal collection of rare birds and reptiles.

With all these amazing scenic beauties, the Kumasi zoo is undoubtedly one of the favorite tourist spots. It is located at the Ashanti Region and is spread over an area of 1.5 Square kilometers. The exact location is between Kumasi Kejetia Bus Terminal and Kumasi Centre for National Culture.

The environment of this place is very pleasant amidst nature and you would love the birds singing. Take a visit to this place with your family and you would love the atmosphere. It would bring you closer to nature. You would see some rare species that you have never seen before and like your children, you too would enjoy seeing such a diversity of life.

But with the increase in human interference, the life at the zoo is becoming quite difficult. Many visitors come to the zoo for disturbing the animals which sometimes leads the animals to be hurt very badly. Even they spoil the environment of the zoo by throwing their food packets and water bottles anywhere and everywhere. The management of the zoo is their best to prevent people from doing so, but with so many people at a time, it becomes almost impossible. It is the duty of the people to look after all these things.

Ghana zoo animals had found themselves a great and protected shelter in the Accra Zoo. But due to the construction of a presidential palace, Accra Zoo in Ghana had to be removed from that place and some of the animals were shifted in Kumasi Zoo while the others to the Achimota forest. The Achimota forest is a long spread of forest land with beautiful vegetations and different varieties of life.

The concept of the management is not only to make a zoo for habitable species but also to convert the forest land to an ecological park. For many years it has been observed, that after the shift of the Accra Zoo animals to the Achimota Zoo, the Ghanaians have no intention to promote tourism to this place despite the beauty.

It is due to this fact, the management has decided about converting the place to an ecological park so that they can attract more tourists and by taking some nominal ticket charges, they can improve the quality of life for the animals living there. With some help from the government and hard work, this zoo can get the recognition that it deserves. Do remember to visit this wonderful place, in case you are in Ghana. You would surely fall in love with the experience.

Even though the current state of the zoo is not too big but the variety of wildlife that is found here is the highlight of this place. When the actual Accra Zoo was open, it was one of the best places for the natural habitat and the thing is same with Achimota Zoo, all it needs is some recognition which would attract the attention of the tourists towards it.

On the border with Burkina Faso in northern Ghana, Africa lies the small town of Paga, which is famous for its friendly crocodiles. The friendly crocodiles stay in the park and not cause any harm to the humans. There are two ponds in the Crocodile park which is inhibited by the crocodiles, the first one is known as the Chiefs pond that is located on the left of the main road when going towards Burkina Faso and the other one is known as Zengo pond which is located at a distance of about half kilometers off the road. Usually, the people visit the first one because of it being located at a convenient place.

On entering the park, you would have to give a nominal charge but in case you want to take pictures, you have to bear additional charges.
