Exploring new things, visiting beautiful places, experiencing great adventures, and creating memories are few aspects why Rudresh and his wife love to travel. Being from a vibrant place of Varanasi and working at MNCs in Pune, Rudresh and his wife Kshama hardly get leaves to spend some quality time with each other. And this time when they managed to escape, they planned to celebrate their first anniversary on a romantic honeymoon tour to Kerala, and here’s what Rudresh wrote about their enthralling experience.

I was looking forward to make my first wedding anniversary special because post wedding, I had to join my office immediately and did not get enough time to plan my honeymoon. Also, cruising through the backwaters on a houseboat in Kerala was on my mind for a long time ever since I heard it from my friends. Hence, when I started searching for something good and under budget, I luckily came across TravelTriangle with the customization option.

Being perfectly under my budget, I had chosen a package which initially was for 5 days and 4 nights but due to lack of leaves and time, I changed the duration to 4 days and 3 nights. Hence, I excluded Thekkady and booked a package only for Munnar and Alleppey along the private houseboat.

Day 1: Embarking On Our Romantic Honeymoon Tour To Kerala

On the first day, we boarded our flight from Pune at 11 am on 19th Nov ‘17 and reached Kochi airport by 2 pm. Our beautiful journey began from there itself. We were picked by cab driver named Vishnu who came in Ford Aspire which was very neat and clean with very nice interiors.

It took around 5-6 hours for us to reach Misty Mountain Hotel in Munnar. On the way to Munnar, we stopped for lunch at a pure veg restaurant since we both are pure vegans, and later, also explored the Spice garden.

From Spice Garden, we were taken to a place in a jeep to enjoy the thrilling Elephant ride. Parvati was a beautiful elephant who helped us create a beautiful experience to begin our journey. We got some memorable clicks and the water shower from her on us was amazing.

Spice Garden was really good, however it was raining but the guide helped us with pair of umbrellas and took us through the different types of spice plantations like jaifal, cloves, black pepper, cardamom, aloe vera, and many more. We also shopped for an ayurvedic diabetic powder for my father, white sandalwood sticks and some more skincare products like aloe vera gel, red sandal powder, haldi, etc.

We finally reached Misty Mountain Hotel where the receptionist had given us a free upgrade from standard room to standard suite. The hotel was very nice, the staff were very well-mannered, and we really liked the rooms and facilities at the hotel. Post finishing the check-in process, we ordered dinner in the room itself and retired for the night as we were tired from all the journey.

Day 2: Sightseeing Tour Of The Beautiful Munnar

Our second day started pretty early as we woke up by 6 am and went to see the hidden garden on the rooftop at the hotel. It is indeed a beautiful garden and was very well maintained. We clicked some beautiful pictures in the garden and stayed there for some time enjoying the peace and quiet.

We finished our complimentary breakfast by 8 am post which, our cab driver Vishnu picked us up and we started our sightseeing in Munnar by 9 am. Vishnu was a very nice Cab driver and spoke well in English which was enough to explain everything around while sightseeing.

Watching Kathakali performance was a good experience and we took few selfies with the dancers too. At the end of the day, we had our dinner at a nearby veg restaurant and went back to the hotel for our overnight stay.

Day 3: Cruising The Magical Backwaters Of Alleppey

Our first wedding anniversary was on 21st Nov ‘17 which was the third day of our romantic honeymoon tour to Kerala. Due to a strike in the Idukki district, we checked out from hotel as early as 6 am. Our driver Vishnu picked us up and as we were leaving early, the hotel staff at reception packed some bread with butter and jam as complimentary breakfast for us and it was really a nice gesture.

As it was our wedding anniversary, we wanted to visit a temple first to get God’s blessings. After crossing Idukki district, Vishnu stopped at a Shiva Temple which was really beautiful. At the entrance, the temple had so many stairs which led to the top where the statue of Lord Shiva was kept. We performed the rituals, and started the journey further.

We reached at Alleppey where we had to board our private houseboat named “White Rose” at 12 pm. The houseboat was really beautiful and its interiors were so charming indeed. We were accompanied by a cook, and a captain of the boat.

Not just that, I also had requested them to allow me to drive the houseboat and very politely they did. In the middle of the backwater, our houseboat was sailing slowly and we were enjoying the nature’s beauty on both the sides as it was full of greenery, coconut trees, and colorful houses.

Our houseboat stopped at a point around 5 pm from where we hired a smaller boat to cruise through the leaner canals which led us into the villages. It started raining in between which to our surprise, increased all the fun.
