“Our holiday in Sri Lanka proved to be a perfect romantic escapade for us. Serene, picturesque, and incredibly fascinating, Sri Lanka was a once in a lifetime experience!”
Sri Lanka was on our bucket list for a long time. I had read a lot of articles in magazines on Sri Lanka, and our friends had also been there and came back with loads of interesting stories from the beautiful island. Hence, it didn’t take much of convincing for us to visit Sri Lanka.

My Solo Honeymoon Trip To Sri Lanka And Maldives
Natural beauty is something that could not go amiss when we traveled to Sri Lanka. We may have discovered and witnessed only a small portion of what’s uniquely scenic about the country, but overall it was a fulfilling experience to visit the following places in Sri Lanka.
Sigiriya: The strong and sturdy rock fortress
Day 1:
On the first day, we arrived in Colombo early morning and headed over to Sigiriya straightaway. For a small country, the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo was very developed and clean. It took us six hours to reach the rock fortress in Sigiriya.
On our way, we stopped at a very picturesque farmhouse where we had a delicious local breakfast. It was a pleasant experience to have a meal at a very humble place which showed us a lot about the culture of people in Sri Lanka.
After checking into the Green Ayurveda Resort & Spa, we visited the ancient fortress built on top of a 200 metre rock. After climbing, more than a thousand steps, we reached the top of the rock from where the view of the jungle (erstwhile Kingdom) was breathtaking.

Kandy: Spirituality redefined
Day 2:
A 5N/ 6D Trip To Sri Lanka Covering The Ramayana Trail
After breakfast, we checked out of the hotel and traveled to Kandy. On our way to Kandy, we stopped at a local place for a jungle elephant ride. After arriving in Kandy, we noticed how clean and calm the city is giving us an impression of an unspoilt haven. We had a bit of a confusion prior to checking in Kandy, which led us to our hotel being changed on the last minute to Topaz Hotel.
Ultimately, we loved our stay in Kandy as the hotel was located on the top of a hill, which gave a nice view of the landscape around us. The city is hub of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, which becomes a focal point of the culture and lifestyle of people in this city. We ended our day in Kandy by seeing a cultural dance performance in the evening at a local community center. .
Nuwara Eliya: The Scotland of Sri Lanka
Day 3:
We bid goodbye to Kandy, and started our journey towards Nuwara Eliya. On our way, we stopped at a beautiful ‘Ceylon’ tea plantation. Sri Lanka is famous for its tea, and this was something my husband and I couldn’t afford to miss. After completing a tour of the tea gardens and tea factory, we moved towards Nuwara Eliya. In the evening, we checked into the Eeescart Resort and admired the beautiful view from our room.
Exploring The Best Of Nature On A Trip To Sri Lanka
That day, it was valentine’s day and we celebrated it by having an incredibly romantic dinner at Grand Hotel. A charming end to another brilliant day of sightseeing, love, and exploration in Sri Lanka.
Bentota Beach Bums
Day 4&5:
The best way to wind up our trip to Sri Lanka was to head to a relaxing beach destination. Therefore, we did just that when we said goodbye to Scotland and hello to tropical heaven- Bentota. It was easily the best place we visited on our trip to Sri Lanka.
We were thrilled to stay next to a stunning beach where we could spend the final few days in Sri Lanka completely chilled out and with nowhere to go. The stay in the hotel for two nights was relaxing, laid-back and extremely comfortable. Although, there were water sports we could’ve done but this was all about us unwinding and enjoy doing nothing.
Colombo: The final stop on our journey
With plenty of hesitation, we checked out from Bentota and then proceeded to Colombo. We arrived in the afternoon, had lunch there and did some sightseeing during our spare time, as our flight was supposed to depart at 10 pm.
We visited Galle Face, Old Parliament, and World Trade Center in Colombo. As we were boarding our flight back to Bengaluru, my husband and I couldn’t stop raving about how awesome Sri Lanka is as a destination to a fellow passenger we befriended at the airport. I guess, Sri Lanka left a long-lasting impact on our hearts that will compel us to return some day.
He Scaled 1400 Steps To A Jungle Rock Fortress On His Romantic-Turned-Adventure Trip To Sri Lanka
High points:
- It was our two-day stay in Bentota where I really enjoyed spending time on the beautiful beach which was right next to the hotel we had booked.
Low points:
- With us being vegetarians, it was a real struggle trying to find suitable food to eat which was meat free and delicious.
Tips for travelers:
- Couples must go and have a romantic dinner at the Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya
- Travel time between two cities is quite a lot in Sri Lanka due to traffic and condition of the roads.
