The Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala, India. It is one of the 108 Divya Desams considered the sacred abodes of Vishnu in the Sri Vaishnava tradition. The principal deity is Padmanabhaswamya a form of Vishnu enshrined in the “Anantashayana” posture, engaged in eternal yogic sleep on his serpent mount, Shesha. Padmanabhaswamy is the tutelary deity of the Travancore royal family. On Ekadashi days, the deity is dressed and decorated as Mohini. The Vrishnies who came to Venad and settled there are known as Krishnan Vakakkar as they belong to the lineage of Krishna.

2. Attukal Bhagavathy Temple

Located in Attukal, Kerala, India, is the Hindu shrine known as the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple. It is located in the East Fort neighbourhood of Thiruvananthapuram, close to the city’s centre, two kilometres from the Padmanabhaswamy Temple. Bhadrakali, astride a vetala, is recognised as the temple’s deity. She is also linked to Kannagi, the epic Cilappatikaram heroine of Ilango Adigal. The temple hosts the Attukal Pongal festival annually, attracting over three million women. Believers in the goddess, whose devotion can lead to redemption, realise all of their wishes. Pongala (literally to boil over) is a ritualistic offering of a sweet dish consisting of rice porridge, sweet brown molasses, coconut gratings, nuts and raisins. It is done as an offering to the temple’s presiding deity – the Goddess – popularly known as Attukal Amma.

3. Napier Museum

The Napier Museum is an art and natural history museum in Thiruvananthapuram, India. The Museum is grounds for the Trivandrum Zoo, one of the oldest zoological gardens in India. The zoo was established in 1857 over 55 acres (220,000 m2) of land. It also contains the Sree Chitra Art Gallery, a separate art gallery established in 1935. This structure has minarets and a Gothic roof, among other elements. One of the city’s landmarks, the Napier Museum, is well-known for its distinctive ornamentation and Mughal, Chinese, Indian, and Keralan architectural styles.
